Just so that you're aware...the records are NOT back at Powhatan...and may not be according to an article that was in the Jonesboro Sun on 5/27/05 (see http://www.jonesborosun.com/archivedstory.asp?ID=14395 ). However, most were born after G.W. had already died and can't answer questions about anyone but their parents. Most were born and raised in Randolph County. The Randolph County Library has some genealogical materials, but it is hard to find time to go and just do research. Thanks for the help!

The 1910 Census for Independence County shows G.W.'s parents as both being born in AR, but as you say they could have been mistaken. But I just noticed something, this census list Wesley as being age 11 and doesn't mention Johnnie at all. Which probably means that they do not have the same mother! All these years, I had been under the impression that Wesley and Johnnie had the same mother, Cora. Apparently, that it incorrect. I had also been under the assumption that Bula was their older half-sister, but she is being shown as younger than Wesley. I had better pull out my copy of the census and look it over again. Maybe it has some more clues that I have overlooked. Thanks!

JONES is my great grandfather, but he died when my father was just a boy. My father was the next to the oldest of 13 or 14 children, so, the others really don't remember anything about the man or where he came from. I really think that there is some connection in Independence County though. Family legend has it that G.W. traveled back to AR from TX by river boat. He and Edgar got off near Blythesville and walked to Independence County to stay with family. 1910 Census shows that G.W. was born in AR as where his parents. This would put the family in AR at last into the 1850's, I suspect.
