Is there any documentation on the migration of Quakers from east Tennessee to the Batesville area in the 1830s? -- Dennis Kowallek Cincinnati, Ohio kowallek@iglou.com ******************
Hi: Carson, Wm. 22, to NAncy E. Shelton 21, BOTH FRON TN. 12 Dec. 1867 by B. Lee, ME Ch. So., C-280. If you call or send to the courthouse in Batesville, they will send you a copy. I don't know how much they charge now. They are the nicest group of ladies at a courthouse that I have ever been too in my 30 yers of Genie Stuff. Take care and Happy Haunting, Marian

I still don't have Rebecca BALES linked under her potential father, Henry BALES, because I am not sure. One of the reasons I thought the Rebecca who married Richard PEEL was a BALES is that there was one other PEEL connection in the BALES family. But I can also see logic in thinking that Rebecca was John HARGROVES' sister. That's why I asked about it. If someone had a family bible or something else that documented Rebecca as his sister, then I would consider the case closed. -- Dennis

Then is it your conclusion that Eldridge is the son of Rebecca BALES? The discrepancy in John's age (28 in 1846 and 39 in 1850) still bothers me a little. -- Dennis

Are you sure the John HARGROVES in the 1850 census is the same John H. who married Rebecca BALES? I have his birthdate as abt 1818 from the marriage record. The census has him abt 1811. If it is the same person, then my conclusion that John died bet 1846 and 1849 is incorrect. There must have been a divorce. I believe Rebecca BALES to be the daughter of Henry BALES, but I only have circumstantial evidence to prove this. My wife is a descendant of Henry BALES. -- Dennis

Surnames: BALES BEALS Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/QV.2ADI/182.2.1.1.1 Message Board Post: My theory is that my Henry BALES (1850 census says b. abt 1793, TN) is the son of John BEALS and Ann THORNBROUGH of Jefferson Co., TN. According to the Quaker records, John and Ann had a son Henry b. 29 Nov 1795. No one seems to know what became of him. I don't have anything conclusive to support my theory, other than that his date and place of birth are close to what they should be. And the names of some of his children and grandchildren seem to follow a pattern that is consistent with this BALES family (Rachel, John, Lydia, Walter, Richard, etc.). I have found at least one other Jefferson Co., TN family that seems to have ended up in Independence Co., AR, so there is a connection between these counties. Other descendants of John and Ann BEALS also ended up elsewhere in AR. Although John and Ann BEALS did not have a son named Caleb, the name Caleb apparently does occur elsewhere in the family. And John's father, William BEALS, was supposed to have been b, in Frederick Co., VA. Some say your Caleb BALES was from that area. I think the only way to prove a connection between these families is to find a living male BALES from each line and convince them to join a DNA surname project. -- Dennis
Are there any Williamson researchers out there? My ggg-grandparents are: Robert "Daniel" Williamson (b=10 May, 1814; d=11 Mar, 1898) Joanna A. Swatsell Williamson (b=10 Sep, 1812; d=22 Jan, 1883) They were married on 15 Dec, 1834 in Tennessee and both are buried in Liberty Cemetery with several other related Williamson family members. I'm curious about all the Williamson lines in Independence county so as to try and figure out how they may connect. Elden May Little Rock

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/QV.2ADI/182.2.1.1 Message Board Post: Dennis - Yes, a census or two does say Caleb was born in Virginia but from experience what's on the census isn't always the right information. Someone out there may have actual proof that Caleb was born in Virginia other than it being on the census, but I don't have that proof. Also, back in the old days boundaries changed and county and state boundaries were sometimes renamed. I'm not saying this is the case with Caleb being born in Virginia but it just seems such a coincidence that Caleb and Henry are both in Independence Co, AR about the same time, living close to each other and some of their children having the same names. For years some people have confused Caleb's son Francis Marion Bales with the Francis Marion who is the son of Henry. Henry's Francis Marion married a Sarah Morris (I believe) and was about 6 years older than Caleb's Francis Marion. Anyway, I hope you find information on your Henry Bales. We still have a lot of questions about our Caleb - and th! e search goes on. Linda Tinney
