    3. Well, Nancy, I've been getting a little lonely, too--waiting to hear from AR researchers. So, I think I'll just toss out some names here and see what happens. Probably nothing. Sometimes I think I'm the only one researching my bunch! (Except a couple of researching-buddy cousins). Currently looking for information on the family of James (M.? Alfred?) PIERCE born 1846 KY and wife Catherine "Kate" LEWELLEN b. 1840s IN. This family lived possibly first Izard County and later Batesville, AR. Children: Alice Nora, Perry, Elizabeth, Linnie Belle, Edna, Ivy. I found James and Catherine and their daughter Alice (born 1868)--in Barry County, MO, 1870. They were in Independence County, I believe, by 1874 or so. In 1870 they were living in Missouri with one L. J. PIERCE age 48 and wife Rachel age 35. This could be James PIERCE's father and possibly a stepmother. James was age 21 at the time and Catherine 24. There is a LEWELLEN family in Barry County, MO, with preference for given names Rawley (Raleigh?) and Catherine. Don't know yet if there is a connection. After migrating from Independence County, James PIERCE lived for a while in Hood County, Texas, and apparently died in Jones County, Texas, 1927. I have been unable to locate a death certificate for him. His wife Catherine LEWELLEN died 1929 Fannin County, TX. I plan to send for her death certificate soon. Anyway, Alice Nora PIERCE married Franklin Price COLE IN 1884, and Independence County was their home until around 1910. FP, or "Babe" as he was known, decided to migrate to Texas, and that's why I'm a Texan and not an Arkansan--either would have been fine with me. Other families related to this Independence County family (Cushman, actually) are: PAINTER, WREN, TOSH, BARTON, WEEKS, BANNING, MELTON, FRANCIS, MEEKER, PULLEN, BLANKENSHIP. Sincerely, Gene K. Johnson

    3. Posted on: Independence Co. Ar Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Ar/Independence/10095 Surname: COCHRAN, GEE, TATE, NELSON, POLSTON ------------------------- At least three separate COCHRAN (various spellings) families settled in Independence County in the 1830s and acquired federal land in Black River (now Marshall?) Twp. The heads of household were James H., Hugh Edward and John G. COCHRAN - all born 1790 to 1800. I have compiled information on all of these families. However, I primarily am interested in James H. COCHRAN, as I suspect that he may be my ancestor. A VERY tentative listing of his children includes: 1. William COUGHRAN, b. c1821 (per military record). 2. Louisa M. COCHRAN, b. 1822 in GA; d. 1879 in Bosque Co., TX; md. Miles Maryland GEE, 1841 in Independence Co. <<<<<< my ancestors 3. Ar Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Ar/Independence/10090 Surname: Grooms, Martin ------------------------- I'm looking for any info on the family of Isaac Grooms, of TN, then AL, who moved to Ark (Independence Co) about 1837-39. Isaac married Delilah Littlejohn 1827 in Lauderdale Co, AL. Their children were: Mary Elizabeth (Polly)b. 1828, married John W Puckett Caroline b. 1829, married Avery Yates Silas G b. 1831, marr. Mary (Polly) Elizabeth Martin Henry E b. 1835, marr. Sarah Missouri Martin Louisa L b. 1837 Lucinda b. 1839 Amanda Jane b. 1841, marr. William Martin Charles b. 1842 Riley E b. 1843, marr. Margaret A ? Delila b. 1846 Zachary Taylor, b. 1848, marr. Martha F ?, and Mrs Fannie Summers I also have info on the children of some of these children. Some members of this Grooms family eventually found their way to Craighead Co. I would be interested in information concerning any of these people, including the spouses, especially the Martins. There was also another Grooms family contemporary with Isaac in Independence Co. I believe they are related: Henry Grooms b. in TN abt 1817 married Rebbeca Rainey in Independence Co 1842. Their children were: Camantha b. 1846 Sarah b. 1846 Charles b. 1849 George b. 1850 Thanks Charles Kirksey

My Mom has saved a lot of articles from the Batesville Guard. Our surnames in the area are JAMES, KING, KIRKPATRICK, LACKS, & LAWRENCE. Hope these articles are helpful to someone...
