Posted on: Independence Co. Ar Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Ar/Independence/10101 Surname: McTigue ------------------------- I am searching for the grave of my ggrandmother, Margaret McTigue, who died in Independence County about 1917. She was living with her son John Hugh McTigue at the time. I have been told that she was buried in a cemetery with the word "Hill" or "Hills" in the name. In the Cemetery Records of Independence Co., Ark., Pleasant Hill Cemetery and Ruddell Hill Cemetery are listed. However, her name is not among those in this reference but there is a "?.M.M." listed. Does anyone know if there are any other cemeteries in Independence Co. with word Hill or Hills in the name??
Dear Listmembers, I am hoping that there are some Cullins and Elms Researchers on the list that can help me identify some of the family/friends in the photos I just posted to the following website: Cullins, Lockwood, Sherry, and Wright Family Page . These photos were my grandmother's. Her name was Cynthia Carene Sherry. Her mother was Mary Lou "Luna" Cullins, daughter of John Swain Cullins and Alice Jane Elms. Thank you for any help you can give me. Hello, I am looking for information on if there were any newspapers during the Civil War time period that survived? If so, I need an address as to where I would write for an obit that may be in one of them. Thank you, Queet Jaco
There are BATEMANs buried in Oaklawn Cem. in Ruddell Township and also in Dota Township, Pleasant Hill Cem. and Bateman Cem. also in Dota. No Alsobrook or any variation of this spelling is listed in the index of the book.
I find no Allsobrooks listed in the Independence Co., Sharp County, or Izard Co. Cemetery books. There is a Batemen in Independence Co. buried in Bateman Cem. Myrvin
Sarah Caroline BATEMAN Allsobrooks and Jesse Allsobrooks died of swamp fever in Independence County AR between 1869-1870. Can anyone tell me where they are buried? Mildred BATEMAN Perry

Can anyone tell me how I might go about finding out what happened to the land my ancestor was living on in the 1860 census?? My ggg-grandfather Joshua MOODY and his wife Joanna DAVIS MOODY and family were living in Independence Co. in the White River Township. The Post Office was Sulpher Rock. I think Joshua and Joanna MOODY died between 1861 and 1870. This is the last known place I have for them. I am hoping I might be able to find out if the land was sold or went through probate or if taxes were paid on it or something. Does anyone know what the general procedure was when the land owners died and there was not a Will??? Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated! Jeannia (p.s. I do not live in AR)
Hi Ginny, It has been sometime since I heard from you. I found no Sebra/Sabra Hamlett in Sharp Co., Independence Co or Izard county. Did find a Sarah H. Johnson 2/22/1971 died 3/2/1941 buried in Barnes Cem. in Sharp County. Barbara contacted some people and the Ring Cemetery has been cleaned off. Thought you might like to know that. Myrvin
The cemeteries they have in Cusham are Claxton, Duncan, Gambill, James, Pleasant Valley, and Well Cemeteries. Maybe this might help you remember. I don't live in Independence Co. either but was born there and my parents left when I was about 8. Myrvin
Alma I sure wished someone down in Independence County would be nice enough to do that for those of us that live out of state. I know that my William R. Pilkinton and his wife Mary Catherine Ragan are buried and I have been to the cemetery, but I also know they are not listed in the book at all. They are buried out near Cushman, got photos of the headstones, but didn't remember to write down the name of that cemetery or the directions to it. I was with my cousin and she can't remember the name of that cemetery up on the hill, either...grrrr. Hugs, Cheryl
Cheryl, If I had to guess, I'd guess Pleasant Valley. That's where a lot of my folks are buried, and my folks and yours seem to be connected. Just a thought. I guess you have to go to the cemetery and look for stones and some these stones someone has scratch the person's name on it. This is the way I found my gggrandmother grave and my ggreat grandparents in Eutopia Cemetery, Sharp County, Ark. Also if the cemetery is connect with a church they might have records of the people buried in the Cemetery,. Myrvin
