That is sooo cool Alma. I'll ask my great aunt back in Arkansas if she knows em. they lived there back then. And I'll ask my grandpa too. And let ya know. Arminta.
Hi Nancy, Your ideas are great! Thats what I would do. When I was back there in April. I found a some general stores back there in Oil Trough,Ark (Independence County),And also a little place called Thida,Arkansas. All I had to do was mention my great granny Dora (Dorie) Ellen Tarwater (Melton) and I opened a history book! lol. So if you come across some of your hometowns Try that! it works. Your on the right track Libraries, Museums and things like that. You might be able to find something Good Luck!!!! I can think of alot more! but my brain is occupied on personal matters. When I think of em I'll let ya know. for sure! Arminta.
okay guys--i need suggestions from all of you here. i get to spend two weeks in the izard/sharp/lawrence county area and on up to stoddard county, MO., first part of august. mom's whole family mainly from hardy/ravenden area-(lasater, kellett, hall, etc)--now all in baker cemetery, sharp county. i haven't been back since i was a little girl 40 years ago. what do you think are the best research spots--courthouses, libraries, museums--anything you think i shouldn't miss. i want to make the best use of my time there, and i already know i won't be ready to leave! ANY input appreciated--please email me privately if this is considered "list clutter". thanks to all, nancy __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Hi Linda, Thanks, There is another cemetery close to Oil Trough, and it is Surround Hill, it is a old cemetery. I have an great great Uncle George W. White that is buried there. Have not been to the cemetery. Hope this helps. If you can not locate the cemetery e-mail me and I will try to see if I can find someone to help you. Thanks, Edna
It's okay; I have those moments myself. Thanks for trying to help. If you run across any cemeteries in Independence Co. that have Hill or Hills in the name (other than Pleasant Hill and Ruddell Hill) please let me know. It's also possible that in 1916 or 1917, when my GGGrandmother died, the cemetery that had Hill in the name could have been renamed in later years. Linda
Linda, I am so sorry, did I say Independence County, I meant Baxter County..I guess i was having a "Senior Montent" Table Top Cemetery is in Baxter County. I think it is real close to the Missouri line. Thanks and I am sorry for all the trouble. Edna

Thanks, that really helps! I'm specifically looking for cemeteries that might have been overlooked in the Cemetery Records of Independence Co., Ark book. The one you mentioned is not listed so that gives us a new place to look. Linda
Is that Tehachapi in CA? I grew up in CA (Barstow) but live in Natchez, MS now Sharon
Ms. Captain Bridges, Dwight Wayne Melton doesn't appear in the Independence Co. Cemetery list either. Small world, I'm just a few miles from Tehachapi, in Antelope Acres. Frank Blankenship
Hmmm This search is gonna be a real lulu. Thanks! Cool! thats awesome! Arminta
Yes it is Sharon. I live here in Tehachapi,California. Arminta.
Arminta, I check the Independence Cem. books and don't find Imogene Melton or parents could they have lived in another County. I have the Sharp and Izard County Cemetery books if you think they are buried in one of those counties. Myrvin
I know where Dora Ellen Tarwater is buried she is buried here in Tehachapi,California Kern County. And William Albert is buried in Maple Springs Cemetery. The thing is we havent been able to find anything on Imogene Melton. Could you check the two counties you mentioned, White County & Stone County. Thanks a bunch for your help. If you come across a Dwight Wayne Melton he's in my melton line. Arminta.
HI Ya'll I've been looking and looking! Im tryin to find out where my aunt is buried in Independence County,Arkansas. her name is Imogene Or might be spelled Imogean, last name Melton. I went through several parts of Arkansas in April of this year. and I went into Oil Trough to get names of Cemeteries so I could have them checked out to see if she was listed there, I didnt have much luck. she died in infancy around 1930-1935 somewhere in there. her parents were Dora Ellen Tarwater, and William Albert Melton. When we got into Oil Trough to a little general store i think it was, and mentioned "Melton" boy I tell ya we opened a history book!!!!!. LoL. I wish I they had known more. I was wondering if anyone might be able to help me with this. they called my great grandmother Dora Ellen Tarwater "Aunt Dorie" I was like hmm ok. But any information is appericiated! Arminta R.
