Is there anyone that is putting the following cemeteries on line? Gamble, Macedonia and Mounds cemeteries in the Columbus, AR area. I am looking to find where Caroline or Calline Williams is buried. I understand she was buried in the Columbus area. She was born in about 1854 or 1855 in Lauderdale Co., AL as Caroline Lanier. She married Henry Wade Williams on October 6, 1880 in Tickridge, AL I believe it is in Lauderdale county. They had 4 children and then she died in about 1890. Her husband is buried at the Hicks cemetery in Ashdowne, AR. I have found her children but not her. I have been looking for her for a long time. If anyone could help me I would appreciate it. Thanking you in advance. Jane Foley Cornelius, NC formerly of Colorado Springs, CO and DeQueen, AR

Some Genealogy??? Bumper Stickers? 1. My family coat of arms ties at the back....is that normal? 2. My family tree is a few branches short! 3. Shake your family tree and watch the nuts fall! 4. My hobby is genealogy; I raise dust bunnies as pets. 5. I looked into my family tree and found out I was a sap.... 6. I'm not stuck, I'm ancestrally challenged. 7. I'm searching for myself; Have you seen me ? 8. Isn't genealogy fun? The answer to one problem, leads to two more! 9. It's 2001... Do you know where your-Great-G. Grandparents are? 10. A family tree can wither if nobody tends it's roots. 11. A new cousin a day keeps the boredom away. 12. After 30 days, unclaimed ancestors will be adopted. 13. Am I the only person up my tree? Sure seems like it! 14. FLOOR: The place for storing your priceless genealogy records. 15. A pack rat is hard to live with, but makes a fine ancestor. Various Author's Unknown
DEAR ANCESTOR Your tombstone stands amoung the rest; neglected and alone The name and date are chiseled out on polished , marbled stone It reaches out to all who care it is too late to mourn You did not know that I exist You died and I was born. Yet each of us are cells of you in flesh, in blood, in bone Our blood contracts and beats a pulse Entirely not our own Dear Ancestor, the place you filled one hundred years ago Spreads out amoung the ones you left who would have loved you so. I wonder if you lived and loved, I wonder if you knew That someday I would find this spot, and come to visit you. Author Unknown.
Today I received the following from a fellow lister and I thought it important to pass along to others who might relate to it. The writer is unknown. It was so touching and meaningful to me that I just had to share it with my fellow listers and genealogy friends. I didn't say so, but was hoping that it would be passed along and shared with all like-minded researchers. I know it made me feel much less guilty about all the time and money I spend on my family history search. God bless the writer of this! We Are the Chosen My feelings are in each family we are called to find the ancestors. To put flesh on their bones and make them live again, To tell the family story and to feel that somehow they know and approve. To me, doing genealogy is not a cold gathering of facts but, instead, Breathing life into all who have gone before. We are the story tellers of the tribe. We have been called as it were by our genes. Those who have gone before cry out to us: Tell our story. So, we do. In finding them, we somehow find ourselves. How many graves have I stood before now and cried? I have lost count. How many times have I told the ancestors you have a wonderful family, you would be proud of us? How many times have I walked up to a grave and felt somehow there was love there for me? I cannot say. It goes beyond just documenting facts. It goes to who am I and why do I do the things I do? It goes to seeing a cemetery about to be lost forever to weeds and indifference And saying I can't let this happen. The bones here are bones of my bone and flesh of my flesh. It goes to doing something about it. It goes to pride in what our ancestors were able to accomplish. How they contributed to what we are today. It goes to respecting their hardships and losses, their never giving in or giving up, Their resoluteness to go on and build a life for their family. It goes to deep pride that they fought to make and keep us a Nation. It goes to a deep and immense understanding that they were doing it for us. That we might be born who we are. That we might remember them. So we do. With love and caring and scribing each fact of their existence, Because we are them and they are us. So, as a scribe called, I tell the story of my family. It is up to that one called in the next generation, To answer the call and take their place in the long line of family storytellers. That is why I do my family genealogy, And that is what calls those young and old to step up And put flesh on the bones. [Author Unknown]

This has come thru a couple of my "help" maillist and thought I should pass it on especially for the new ones to the internet. Below the response I gave to one of the maillist. Maybe it will help some of you to keep aware. Kathy **** Hi Everyone: The old genealogy scam is back. www.genseekers.com Behind the password protection are links to the free genealogy on-line. There is no content of their own. In order to get the "5-day free trial" you have to surrender a credit card or bank account number. You have to cancel within 5 days or you get dinged. Guess what? The cancellation e-mail bounces. Does this surprise you? One person who recently fell for the come-on had his/her account dinged not once, but twice. It is time to remind folks on your state and county mailing lists about these scoundrels. It has been a couple of years since we have mentioned this. Permission is granted to pass this on. ***** If I recall correctly they pop up under different names every so often to continue their "business". If everyone would do one thing before "ordering" from someone they do not know..or know someone that has already done business with and are happy...bookmark the website <A HREF="www.networksolutions.com"> www.networksolutions.com</A> On the right side of the page above the bar that has "home"..you will find "whois" .. click it..For an example of what you should find but don't find under genseekers.com type in one of my business names (be sure domain name is clicked as your search and do not type in www.): genealogyshoppe.com or censusview.org You will find out all about me..my name, address, phone number, my webhost and how to contact them..the date the domain names was first formed (Genealogy Shoppe I used my aol service prior...Census View is when I bought the company), it shows when I last paid for my domain name and when it expires and I have to pay again. NOW go back and type in genseekers.com The only thing it tells you about them...is they have created the domain name and will soon be expiring but if they keep it current the $10 - $15 they have to pay to keep it is nothing compared to what they can scam people (they also use a cheap webhost). No physical address is given and wow take a close look at the phone number..not even a phone number <g> Now if you have complaint with "bad business" you can contact the business you are dealing with webhost and if they find they have bad practices ... they can take down their website. I did just a little more searching to give people an idea of other things they can do. Genseekers.com lists on networksolutions.com as they are based in CA but on their website they show their contact as in IA. If you go to yellowpages.com you will not find a company name listed in Grand Rapids, IA. If you go to whitepages.com you do not find a phone number as existing so it may be a new number, unlisted number or just a number they posted on their contact page that does not exist. Also on whitepages.com if you search by address..it is apparently an apartment complex number rather than a business suite number as it lists numerous person names for the address rather than business names. Nothing against home based businesses as I am one too..nothing against apartment dwellers...but how is any one without a great expense going to find out which person in the apartment complex is responsible for scamming...little easier to pick up and leave if you are renting/leasing an apartment. Hope this helps someone not be scammed. Good luck in your search! Kathy Stokes Hudson
I am looking for my uncle who died very young in Howard County. Here's what I know. My grandfather Milton Garland Kemp had a son, name unknown, who died about 1909 in Howard County. The boy was about 4 or 5 years old. He had a younger sister, Velma, and his mother was Lena Velma Caldwell Kemp. I realize that this is a long shot, but if anyone has any ideas, please let me know. Hello, I am checking my AR death index 1924-1933. Do not find an Ella exactly... but there is the following possibilities: HOLCUM, E.L. Lee Co. 4/3/1926 This index goes by any choice of names/initials that could have been used at the time, What was her full name and any nicknames ? Where was she in 1920? What was the death year? There are no Holcombs, etc. given for Howard Co. AR, some for surrounding counties though. In the book 'AR Births Prior to 1902, 1942 Filings, Binder1': I find a Child born in Howard Co AR named Lettie May HOLCOMBE b.20 SEPT 1899 Mom is Effie Luretta BARDWELL. Binder 1 Vol 119 Cert. # 458 ((I wonder if this E.L. is the same E.L. who died in Lee Co...??)) Hope this helps! Give me more info & I will look again.
