Can someone get in touch with the administrator for Sevier Co., for me as my emails are not going thru and I don't know why. They are bouncing. This is the only site that I know of that I am having trouble getting thru. I am thinking that maybe the address has changed. Jane Foley NC

I have gotten the Howard Co website updated. You will see a couple new links to AR WWII Army & Army Air Force Casualties...one is directly to the Howard Co link and the other is for the main page. If you go to the main page you may find a couple of links inoperable...they are still being transcribed so be patient for all counties to be completed. A big thank you to our AR State coordinator Betsy Mills who has done a wonderful job making this information available and conducting the project. I did make a quick trip to Howard Co a few weeks ago. While there I was informed of a book I purchased called "Reflections A Pictorial History of Howard Co., AR" A Publication of "The Nashville Leader" There is 96 pages and the photos range from late 1800's to the year 2000+ There is no index. I don't know if the Nashville News Leader has a database of names in the book or not..I did not think to ask. You can find their link on the Howard Co website or go to the Online News Paper List http://www.usnpl.com/ for any questions you might have on ordering. I THINK I paid $25 for the book. Of course I don't know what the shipping and handling would be to ship it. Some of the names of the older pictures are: Tollett, Poole, Chessir, Lee, McGuire, Jacques, Harrison, Watson, Jones, Westbrook, Robertston, Cranford, Hale, Smith, Adams, Wilson, Hayes, Norwood, Johnson, Ayers, Estes, S. B. Reese (house), abt 1911 United Methodist Chuch Sunday school (many names listed), Buck Range school abt 1913 (many names listed), Cassady, Douglas, Reeder, Williams, Ponder family abt 1911 (many names listed), Biggs family (many names listed), Braggs family (many names listed), Pope home (many names listed), Pullen, Batch, Garner, McAdams, Ball...there are many school & church gatherings with many names listed. These are only a few listed and I am just up to page 27...so this gives you an idea that it has many photos and many people. I am not sure if I made the announcement that AGS (AR Genealogical Society) has a new publication for the AR Birth Prior...it is Volumes 1-6 ( http://www.agsgenealogy.org/publications.htm ) I personally purchase the cd format not only because of cost but I have alternate ways of searching...but to each their own preference. Also I will make note to you they are hosting the FGS Conference (Federation of Genealogist Society) in Little Rock Sept 2-9 this year. If you have never attended a national conference...I encourage you to do so...there is so much knowledge there that can be obtained you will think you are about to explode<G>. Thank you to those who submitted information to be posted on the Howard Co., AR US GenWeb Project! Good luck in your search! Arkansasgravestones.org is very proud to be able to begin posting photographs of the gravestones at Little Rock National Cemetery. AGP is going an extra step to recognize veterans and other public servants. They are attempting to designate all veterans with a special designation of (Veteran) within the surname field so that they may be easily searched. All postings for veterans now have a second review to assure quality. Brenda's ancestor is not the one in the national cemetery in Sebastian County but in Little Rock National Cemetery. I have notified the lady who took the photograph to let her know that a descendant found the photo. I just wanted to say thanks for posting the Arkansas Graves website. I was able to find my ancestor, Wm T. Craig. He was a civil war veteran and was buried in the National Cemtary in Little Rock, Arkansas. I did check the other site, FInd A Grave, about a week ago. National Cemetary headstones were not included in their collection yet. I'm really tickled about finding the photo, too. Odds are that I won't be making it back to Arkansas anytime soon. So for me to take the picture myself wasn't in the realm of reality for me. I really, really appreciate Patti posting the website. I look forward to seeing more of the headstones from Howard & Pike counties posted. Especially Antioch cemetary. Wm T. Craig lived in Muddy Fork, Howard, Arkansas from 1896 to sometime after 1900. By 1910, he's living in Harris, Johnston, Oklahoma, with his son Joseph J. Craig. He entered the Sweet Home Confederate Nursing Home in Little Rock on 1 January 1915. For those who are looking for information on him, I've posted most of what I have on a family tree at Ancestry.com---called Howard-Minor family tree. Kathy, I'm posting a link for you. It is in regards to Elder John Parker & his wagon train to Texas. Believe it or not, W.T. Craig's wife (3rd wife) was Sarah Ann Jordan. She was the granddaughter of Elias Jordan and he descended from the Jordans of Wabash county, Illinois. Apparently, the Jordans joined Elder Parker on the Wagon train headed west. But for some reason, he & his family dropped out of it when they reached Stoddard county, Missouri. Stoddard county is where he remained and died. His wife also. His children migrated into the next county---Dunklin. THIS is where W. T. Craig was living when he enlisted in the Confederate Army, in 1862. Anyway, back to Elder Parker. The link below has a partial list of some of the folks that traveled on that wagon train. And there was a 2nd wagon train that headed out to California. Check it out.... http://http://www.jordan-family.org/index.html I'm so glad I didn't skip reading this last issue of Howard county..... So Glad!! Thanks Patti, for clearing that up for me. I forgot to address that part of Kathy's email. But yes, the W.T. Craig buried in the National Cemetary was William Thomas Craig, born in November 1833, in Kentucky. My research is indicating that he was the son of John M. Craig and Sarah R. Wilson, of Obion county, Tennessee (John M. Craig>Samuel Craig>James Craig & Rhoda Niblick). It tool a really long time to reach this point in my research. Mainly because I started off with only the intials of W.D. or W.T. Craig...some thought the "W" was for William, but were not sure of it. Then when I found they lived in Indian Territory during the 1890's, finding information was extremely difficult. When Ancestry.com finally posted the 1900 census, I found William & his children living in Muddy Fork, Howard, Arkansas. His oldest daughter (with 3rd wife) was Connie Young, wife of George W. Young. His third child was also a daughter and her name was Lula... She married Samuel Wilburn McBay and she was known as Lou McBay. I knew about their brother Porter Craig. Family members remembered him and Lou. But the 1900 census revealed 3 more brothers: William Thomas Jr., Joseph James, and George Washington Craig. I've been working on finding all of the brother's and their records. I've found Joseph & George in California. But I cannot find Uncle Porter or William Jr. One Aunt reported that the last time she saw Uncle Porter it was in Ok City---at a bingo hall. She dated it back in the early 1950's ("When my boys were quite small"). The 1930 census indicates he was living in Ardmore, Oklahoma. Perhaps he remained there. I'm not finding much at the website though. As for William Jr., I don't have a clue where he ended up. He didn't register for the draft, like his brothers. And w/o some information to go on, I don't know how to pinpoint him on the 1910 census. There are literally 1000's of men named "William Craig"...... I know, I've been working on his father for years! But my journey continues on... At least, now I have a better picture of William Sr and his lifetime. I've compiled enough now that I think a book is in order. IF I can get organized enough to do it. Anyway, thanks again Patti. I hope the other lady finds the right man.... Brenda

Thank you Patti. I had been referred to the website at an earlier date..but my problem with it is the files are not sharable like findagrave.com. The only way you can save the image is if you right click and "save image as" but then you do not have a "full" image which makes it pixilated if you want a larger image than saved. So myself, I will stick to findagrave.com and also being webmaster for Sevier and Howard Cos I do have some images of some of the cemeteries...which my goal the first of the year is to start posting them to the Howard & Sevier Co. websites. It is New Year's Eve, 1852 and John Smith sits at his desk byIt is New Year's Eve, 1852 and John Smith sits at his desk by candlelight. He dips his quill pen in ink and begins to writes his New Year's resolutions: ********************************** 1. No man is truly well-educated unless he learns to spell his name at least three different ways within the same document. I resolve to give the appearance of being extremely well-educated in the coming year. 2. I resolve to see to it that all of my children will have the same names that my ancestors have used for six generations in a row. 3. My age is no one's business but my own. I hereby resolve to never list the same age or birth year twice on any document. 4. I resolve to have each of my children baptized in a different church -- either in a different faith or in a different parish. Every third child will not be baptized at all, or will be baptized by an itinerant minister who keeps no records. 5. I resolve to move to a new town, new county, or new state at least once every 10 years -- just before those pesky enumerators come around asking silly questions. 6. I will make every attempt to reside in counties and towns where no vital records are maintained or where the courthouse burns down every few years. 7. I resolve to join an obscure religious cult that does not believe in record keeping or in participating in military service. 8. When the tax collector comes to my door, I'll loan him my pen, which has been dipped in rapidly fading blue ink. 9. I resolve that if my beloved wife Mary should die, I will marry another Mary. 10. I resolve not to make a will. Who needs to spend money on a lawyer. 11. I resolve to not clutter up the good farm pasture with headstones, that will just get broken or fade with time anyway. 12. I resolve to protect my family and friends privacy, by giving false names and places for events. 13. I resolve to never give the correct accounts of misdeeds in the family, so when Uncle Lem shot that guy and was tried for murder, my kids will be told he stole a cow. 14. I resolve to never trim the family cemetery of brush and tangle weed, to keep out any one doing that silly Genealogical work. 15. I resolve to always alternate my kid's and wife's first and middle names when the census taker comes around, just to give him practice with his spelling. 16. I resolve to come from Ireland (where there are no records, or, if there are, they can only be examined by visiting the exact village, pleading with the local clergy (who is hostile to anyone not of his belief which of course you are) and/or handing over a fee equal to or exceeding your yearly income for one hour's research which may not find anything.) 17. I resolve that not only shall I NOT die in my country of birth, but that nor shall my children (yea verily) unto the sixth generation. 18. I resolve that I shall call my children by odd names which the enumerator shall spell incorrectly. 19. I resolve that I shall be absent on the night of the census. 20. I resolve that if unable to be absent on census night I shall endeavor to be enumerated twice. 21. I resolve that when I die my children/wife are instructed to give the wrong details for my death certificate. 22. I resolve that I and most of my family shall die suddenly just before death certifications started to be used, in a parish where easy access to the records ceased the previous year. ************************************
Family Photos Family Photos Family photos in a box Not real sure of what I’ve got… Old tin type of someone now gone No one remembers her favorite song… Man in a suit by a beautiful new wife… Wish I knew where he fit in my life. And then there’s a photo of them with a baby- Was that their newborn or a nephew, maybe? Young boys in dresses? I guess that was the style But today we laugh And think it was wild! An elderly couple in vintage dress I have no idea who they were I confess! I wish I could go back to someone who knew And ask them to tell about these folks that they knew! I wish I could know how they thought And just how was life For that beautiful bride As a mother and wife!
