The following was posted by Ann Thomason <AnnRThomason@AOL.com> on Wed, 16 Feb 2000 on the Greene County GenConnect Query Forum: - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Surname: Thomason I am looking for the Family of John Ryer Jeff Davis Enoch Turner Thomason born 1864 in Kentucky; one brother known George Washingtom Eli Columbus Thomason born about 1859. Both were said by elderly family members to have come from Greene County, Arkansas. Their mother was from Kentucky, their father from Arkansas. Family stories say John Ryer was born 6 months after his father marched away to war. Father probably Confederate soldier (by John Ryer's added given name "Jeff Davis"), also may have had releative "Enoch Turner" or Enoch Turner Thomason". One of the brothers was said to have been named after their father. Both brothers settled in Hunt County, Texas at least by 1883. Delbert Thomason, son of George W. Thomason recollected his father was a small bult man who liked to fight; also that his father would show him how to do something, then say "That's the way my father taught me." Delbert also recalled his father having owned a farm in Greene County, Arkansas, and vividly remembers his father receiving a letter from his farm tenant in Greene County recounting his troubles in which the fence had burned and a cyclone tore down the barn. Any help would be appreciated. We've looked for this family for years. John Ryer was known to have kept impeccable records in a large family bible but it was reputed to have burned in a house fire about 1929 in Hunt County, Texas. - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Any replies should be sent to the Greene County GenConnect Query Forum [<http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ar/Greene>] unless it is personal or involves live people addresses etc. when it should be sent to Ann Thomason <AnnRThomason@AOL.com>. --
