My aunt just sent me a clipping from the 19 MAR 00 issue of the Paragould Daily Press, "Group Roots Memorial Program in Trees," by Dick Clifford. The City Beautiful Commission has a memorial recognition committee, they will plant a tree or shrub for you. The most expensive tree is a Bradford Pear, at $49.95. Other choices are red maple, pin oak, purple leaf plum, weeping willow, red or white flowering crabapple, Kwanzan cherry, green ash, golden rain tree, river birch, Leyland cypress, crepe myrtle and forsythia. The cost includes the plant, planting mix, labor, mulch and fertilizer. The committee has a 1000-gallon tank for watering trees and shrubs on public property. They are concentrating on beautifying public property, especially Labor Park and Linwood Cemetery, and Reynolds, Centennial, Harmon and Rotary Parks. They will also plant your tree where ever you desire [within reason], for example, I had a purple leaf plum planted at the country club near where my dad made his only hole-in-one...Other locations mentioned in the article are Greene Co Tech and Paragould High Schools, Crowley's Ridge Academy, Baldwin Elementary, Arkansas Methodist Hospital, Paragould Nursing Center, Greene Acres Nursing Home, and many private yards. The contacts given in the article are Gwen Fahr [870] 236-8426 and Sally Martin [870] 236-3319. Wonder if they have a website or e-dress? Donna Gist Moore
