Unfortunately, I do not know the parents of Harden Scaggs nor his actual birthplace. I would be happy to try to answer specific questions that you may have. Harden was born in KY around 1831 based upon the 1860 census. Some feel that he came from the old Peter Scaggs line in Lawrence County, KY but I have never found documentation. Although he was not counted in the 1850 Wayne County, VA/WV census, he must have been in the area because he and his wife Jane Christian had their first son, Isaac, in 1851. Jane Christian's parents were Alexander and Elizabeth Newton. I have visited the farm where they resided for awhile along Wolf Creek, Wayne County, WV. Harden died in the 1866/67 time frame of an unknown cause. Birth and death certificates have not been located. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
