Just boilerplate. :( Guess I will have to order a copy of the death certificate for Robert Stedman from the state of Arkansas, if it is possible. I find it curious that he made out his will a year before his death at age 50. If this really is my husband's grandfather, I'd like to know if he died of cancer. My sister-in-law died of colon cancer at just 33 years old. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. There is a restaurant in a barn near Amber where we had an outstanding meal, surrounded by gorgeous corn fields. But every place else had corn that was in bad shape. Wish we had brought home tomatoes. So hard to find good ones here. (We are in McKinney, TX, which is part of the Dallas metro.) We were in Iowa the first weekend in August for my dad's school reunion. His sister still lives there. We brought home all the home grown tomatoes that we could carry! A little sad that the corn was in such poor shape tho. We try to go to Iowa every summer. We are in Oklahoma now. My dad was in the Air Force. I was just in Iowa in July for a family reunion, at the church I attended as a child and young adult. It is near Monticello and Scotch Grove. That is beautiful country. I don't recall ever seeing the BEES or BIS name there. However, there are a lot of Bohemians in the area and, as my dad always used to point out, they were the ones who provided competition with the Germans as far as beautiful farms with gorgeous flowers and clean fence rows. Is this BEES/BIS great-grandfather of yours connected to the STEDMAN? Or is that a different line? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. My great-grandfather's brother lived in Jones County! Oxford Junction. My great-grandfather didn't get along with his family so he moved first to the Belle Plaine/Tama area then to Poweshiek County (Hartwick). There name was Bees, but on his old Bohemian birth certificate it is spelled Bis. Can't wait to get the probate papers. The clerk told me they were already copied and just waiting for me to send the fee. Author: dbkeys Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.arkansas.counties.greene/2829.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: What a small world! I grew up in Jones County. Iowa, as a small child but then moved with my family to Linn County, Iowa, in 6th grade. I haven't been to Ely but have certainly heard of it. My grandmother (Martin's descendant), her twin sister, and her parents lived in the mountains of Colorado but moved to Missouri in about 1917. My mother (Martin's descendant) was born in Missouri but married my father who was from Jones County, Iowa, and has lived in Iowa ever since. She lives in Linn County, as a matter of fact. The name of the Missouri cemetery in Vernon County, MO, just came to me so I checked the internet to see if I could find the Steadmans. It is Sandstone Cemetery, and here is the link: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gsr&GSsr=41&GScid=31434& Since Minnie Steadman's dad is buried in the same cemetery, it appears that Aaron Steadman married a Missouri gal. I still think he is my Aaron Cleveland Stedman, but I will need to take a look at some of my Stedman papers. It has been a while since I have focused on them. Just yesterday I sent money to Greene County to cover the copies of the probate files for Robert Stedman and his parents. I will certainly let you know if it mentions Linn County or Martin. My MIL's birth certificate says her father (Robert Stedman/Steadman)was born in MO but I never could find a Robert there that was born around 1910. Funny coincidence as this Stedman could be my husband's line but I have a line of my own from Linn County! Ely - just south of Cedar Rapids as I recall. Author: dbkeys Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.arkansas.counties.greene/2829.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: This past Saturday, I was looking through a series of volumes about Arkansas called "Life & Times From the Clay County Courier Newspaper," starting in 1893 and going into the early part of the 20th century. I recall seeing a Stedman name although I did not make a written note. The reason I noticed is that I have a STEDMAN line, and I am always alert to this particular spelling. My grgrgr-grandfather Martin STEDMAN traveled to Linn County, Iowa, in the 1840's - from NY state via Ohio, according to family legend. I think one of his STEADMAN descendants is buried in Vernon County, Missouri. Somewhere, I have a photo of the headstone for that particular STEADMAN. My grandmother is the one who told me this latter person was a relative - would have been from her mother's family. I do not remember the first name of the AR STEDAMAN but do remember wondering if there could be a connection to my Vernon County, MO, relative. If you would like me to go back to the library to determine more about the STEDMAN mentioned in the Clay County, AR, newspaper (Greene County and Paragould are the next county south), just let me know. My Great Grandmother was Johanna Wilhelmina Remagen (1857-1927). She was a Sister of John Henry Remagen (1852-1932), who was the Father of: Minnie P. Remagen (1904-1990). Johanna Wilhelmina Remagen MARRIED Robert Jim Kreutzer (1854-1901) and when he died came to California. I have a "Sympathy Card" written by Minnie Heslin and addressed to my Aunt Gladys. It was sent in Memory of my GRANDMOTHER, Lena May Kreutzer - Weissinger (the Daughter of Johanna Wilhelmina Remagen - Kreutzer). Further, this note was signed by Minnie Heslin and another person named: Ellen Balling (I do not know who this other person is). I am trying to find her relatives to learn more about the families. We have very little info about the REMAGEN's or the HESLIN's. So, if you have some additional information it would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Melanie T.
