Does anyone know of any Crowleys that came from Jackson Co., AL to Greene Co., Ark about 1810-60? I was looking for my Jesse Williams in 1850 Jackson Co., AL census and there are Crowleys next door, one head of household is named Asa Crowley and I have forgotten the other. If these Crowleys came to Greene Co it could indicate that the Williams in Jackson were the ones who came to Greene Co also. I've found that Greene Co folks often lived near each other before they came to Ark. Thaks, Cindy Dickinson
Does anyone have any information on a John Thomas Branch who married Maggie Rowe in Greene County in 1899? They're listed in the 1900 and 1910 census. Maggie Rowe Branch died in 1911 I think. I'm looking for info on her. Carey Rogers

I recently read in the Paragould Daily Press Online News that the name of Eight Mile Creek has been changed to "Francis Bland Floodway Ditch" to honor Francis Bland because of his many contributions to Paragould and Greene County and particularly relating to flood control. Was there any discussion of this change before the politicians all the way from President Bill Clinton to Mayor Mike Gaskill decided that it should be made? It was a shock to me. I don't live in Arkansas now and don't get much local news anymore. My sister and I, and a cousin were born less than one hundred yards from Eight Mile Creek in the Pine Knot community. My grandparents and other family members have lived along this stream since the 1850's. I personally feel that a part of my history has been taken away. But did the change have any opposition at all? Would someone who has some local knowledge about this issue please respond. Joe W. Pruett

researching JJ Halford who married Mrs. H. C. Griffey in Greene County on Dec 12, 1887.
