Bill, Do you know anything about the family of John A. Dacus? I assume he came from Cherokee County to Arkansas with the Dacus, Newberry, et al group? I wonder if he is related to Nathaniel Dacus who is supposedly the father of Nancy Dacus who married John Newberry in Cherokee Co? They came to Arkansas with this group I believe. Another child of Nathaniel (I've been told) was a Pascal "Pack" Dacus. I think that Nancy and Pascal were born in South Carolina but I have no idea where. I notice that you have John's birthplace as SC. Brothers and sister perhaps? Hello William C. Newberry, Samuel and Nancy's son m1: Martha Jane Haney 7 Nov 1872 , m2: Mary Harrison Hartsoe 18 Oct 1877 she was the daughter of Walliam Hartsoe and Sarah McFarland Samuel and Nancy moved to Greene County Arkansas from Weakley Tennessee about 1859 They lived in Friendship Township Doris
Hartsoe Cemetery is near Marmaduke in northern Greene County. It was, apparently, named for the Hartsoe family, many of whom are buried there. You can view the cemetery records at http://www.rootsweb.com/~argreene/hartsoe.htm Debra | | Do you know anything about 'Hartsoe Cemetery'? Is Hartsoe a family | name/surname? Where abouts is it located? | | Thanks, | | Robin |
Where were they from before going to Greene Co., AR? Our CLARKSON family was from Jefferson Co., TN and there was a daughter named Melissa, b. 1831 who married a DOGGETT in TN. I know that's not yours, but the name could have been passed along through the family if yours was from that area. Hartsoe is a family name and as far as I know it is in Greene County, Arkansas. Have you ever heard of it? Where are you located? I am in San Diego and would love more information on my family Goris
I will try this again. I have posted before with no luck but maybe someone will see the post this time and make a connection. Charles Jefferson SIMS (sometimes went by Jeff or C.J.) was in Greene County in 1918 with 3 children. Lela, Beatrice and Merle. Lived in Maine (Mann) Shore. Married Kelly Lowery in 1920 in Paragould and Andrew Back was a witness. Any connections on any of these names. Thank you, Sandra SIMS Rabalais srabalais@barrow.com

John, on the Medlock Chart at http://www.couchgenweb.com/family/medlock.htm#commodore I notice that a Thomas WYNN married Jewel Ida Mae Dean Medlock. Were they ever in Greene or Craighead County? If so, do you have any other information about Thomas Wynn? My Winns migrated from TN beginning about 1859. Throughout history the spelling of their surname has varied from Wyn, Wynn, Wynne and Winn. Debra
Gail and Janice, When I was in junior high school (early 60s), I had a teacher named who married a farmer from Delaplaine whose last name was Compton. In the Northeast Arkansas phone book, I find only one listing for a Compton in Delaplaine--James. There are only 10 Compton listings for all of Northeast Arkansas, including Jonesboro, Paragould, Delaplaine and Imboden. Debra | But I have to believe that all Comptons in Greene Co. were related. Mine is | from William A. J. Compton/Sierra Nevada Green. They had about 12 children | from about 1880 to 1900.
Hi- I'm looking for any information on a Lovie Ann Thomason. Can anyone help? Thanks- Rich Lee
Debra, Yes, that's the one. Emma later remarried a Carl Simpson after commodore died. Emma was going to help me with some history and photos but died before she could help me. I made a trip there a nd talked to one of the grandsons once and later to a daughter or niece but hey never helped me at all. I was hoping someone else might know of these families and be able to provide me some info on them. Thanks, John R & D Walker wrote: > > John, do you know which Boling married into the Medlock line? I am so glad to find someone who knows about my Gates...actually, I wasn't sure there were any still living there. My grandmother was Irene Gates..born in 1898 and died in 1985. Her parents were Jacob Marion Gates/Nancy Jane Thomas. I posted a photo of their family of 7 children on the Green Co. web page. My grandmother married Richard Neal Compton but they were only married about a year when he died...leaving her in 1914 a 16 year old widow with a 3 month old son ---my dad. My grandmother remarried and they moved to St. Louis where my dad grew up and I still live. Anyway, to make this even longer---my grandmother was very close to her Gates sisters but they died long ago...and I don't have many ties to any of their relatives now... I also have few Compton ties. We didn't even know any of them until my sister and I got interested in genealogy and went to Delaplaine in the early 1980s to say hello! to them! I have done a lot of genealogy on all those lines but would love to meet relatives still there!! Any information you could provide would be great. As I said, I know more about the people who lived 100-300 years ago than I do those alive now! Gail Compton
Thanks Carol I sure need some help here and I don't have any news on the Trantham's so thank you much, will try to go from this and see if I can find something else Doris
Hi Janice, I don't know if I am related to her or not....but no, she is not my direct line of Comptons. But I have to believe that all Comptons in Greene Co. were related. Mine is from William A. J. Compton/Sierra Nevada Green. They had about 12 children from about 1880 to 1900. My grandmother, Irene Gates, married their son Richard Neal Compton. However, they were married less than a year when he died. My father was 3 months old and my grandmother was a 16 year old widow. She remarried several years later and moved to St. Louis with her husband and my father. He kept the Compton surname but had no contacts with other Comptons, at least in St. Louis. But there must be quite a few Comptons somwhere that are related to me!!! Gail
Nancy, What I have is John W. Creel son of Andrew J. and Nancy Creel b. 13 Dec 1885 in Greene Co., AR d. 16 Mar 1907 in Greene Co., AR md. 16 Jan 1904 in Greene Co., AR Teck Fielder b. 15 Apr 1885 in Greene Co., AR d. 20 Feb 1905 Both are buried at Mt. Zion Cem. Interesting note...I also found in the Craighead Co. marriage book John Creele age 23 married Texanna Fielder age 19, 2 May 1904 Now here is where I have a question I need help with. I have a petition of J.A. Fielder to sell real estate of Lizzie Opal Creel. J.A. Fielder is the guardian of said Lizzie Opal. Lizzie Opal Creel was born 10 Feb 1905 (10 days before Teck died) d. 14 Mar 1995 in Paragould. She was married to Tommy Willcoxson. She is buried in Mt. Zion Cem. My question is....is Lizzie Opal the daughter of John and Teck Fielder? (I'm 99.9% sure...but I need acual proof.) I hope you might have an answer.
