Vonda, Thanks. The Medlock homestead is still being farmed today by a manager for the Medlocks. I jut can't seem to find them in any censuses, but then, haven't had an opportunity to try the 1900 and 1910 as of yet. John Vonda Kellems wrote: > > Try Craighead co. Thanks for your Smith info. My Smith line came from Ky mid 1800s to Ark, so I am really looking a little futher back, but you never know... I will keep your info on file. Dennis
Hello to all, I want to first thank and commend Tina and her partner for all of the effort that they have had in creating their Web page and their generousity in sharing it with the world at no charge. Also in being so kind and helpful when ever the opportunity presents itself. (of course this is where I'm going to get a little selfish) You are doing an outstanding job, and I for one am thankful for your efforts everytime I source your Page, open a Greene County mail, or think about Greene County for that matter. We are all SO lucky to have you. Thank you!! Now, on to my selfish request. :) Among my surname interests in Greene County is BOYD. On the 1860 Greene County census there is a family of BOYD, head of household Mary [no age or place of birth] with several children, ranging in age from 26ish to 5. Two of these boys' occupation appears to be listed as 'mail carrier'. How can I find out more information on mail carrier's in Greene County at that time period? Were any records kept? Were they paid? If so by whom? Any suggestions will be most welcome! :) The BOYD's that I'm looking at, with a keen and scrutinous eye, are: Mary BOYD b. abt 1811 TN John R. BOYD b.abt1833TN d.abt 1867-69 m.Sophia SMITH b.abt 1838 TN William P.(Pinkney) C. BOYD b.abt 1834 TN Mary BOYD b.abt 1838 TN Andrew J. BOYD b.abt 1840 [I believe Killed in Action in GA in Civil War 7/22/1864] Francis M. BOYD b.abt1842 George W. BOYD b.abt 1844 Martin W. BOYD b.1846 TN d.1885 Greene Co AR m.Martha Jane McMILLAN b.1842 SC d.1911 Green Co AR Paul Whitfield BOYD b.1848 TN d.1909 Paragould, AR m. Nancy Ann CLARK b.1846 AR d.1928 Paragould, AR David F.L. BOYD b.1855 TN d.1933 OK*********** These guys came from Macon County TN between 1855 and 1860. Their father was with them when they came, but died shortly after their arrival. John, William and Andrew all served in the Confederate Service during the Civil War. I believe that Francis did as well, and possibly George. Looking forward to any information or suggestions you may have regarding the Mail Carrier question. Thank you for your time. Robin J.

Posted on: Greene County, Ar Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ar/Greene/933 Surname: NEWBERRY, DACUS, CONROY ------------------------- I understand the Greene County Historical is trying to salvage the old records in the old Courthouse at Paragould. I wonder if you have come across any records from the previous courthouse at Gainesville. I am looking for more information on ______ Conroy, who shot my great great grandmother in 1875, Nancy Ann DACUS Newberry (1818-1883). He wrote an ode on his plight while in the Gainesville jail awaiting disposition. I would like to know his first name and what that didposition was. "Nancy Newberry lived to be seventy-six. She died in 1883." quoting an article, "Song of a Jailbird", from Greene County Historical and Genealogical Society Quarterly Journal, written about the first quarter of 1998 by editor, Mack A. Hamblen. "Song of a Jailbird" was originally published 9 Feb 1939 by John F. Rainey in the Greene County Citizen. "Song of a Jailbird" was an "ode" written by ______ Conroy while he was in the jail at Gainesville, Greene County for robbing Nancy DACUS Newberry, shooting her in the hip, and leaving her for dead in 1875. "Mr. Rainey reported that the poem was brought into his office by John W. Pillow [John William PILLOW, 1857-1942, who was an uncle of John William "Johny" "Johnnie" PILLOW, 1871-1951. They are buried 10 feet apart in Pine Knot Cemetery, see Johny in Chapter 6] of Route 5, Paragould. Pillow obtained the copy from his friend, J. Sam Thompson [Joseph Samuel "Sam" THOMPSON, 1899-1968], County Clerk, who had it in his files." The further disposition of ______ Conroy was not stated. { "[ ]" bracketed items are by Grant Collar. And, if anybody knows, I would also like to know where Nancy died and where she was buried. For your information, my mother was Noma Lillian NEWBERRY Collar, b: 29 Sep 1908 one mile west of Finch (at the home of her grandmother, Nancy Ellen THOMPSON Edwards [later Wilcockson], 1864-1951), d: 11 Mar 2000 at Little Rock, buried in Finch Baptist Cemetery on 16 Mar 2000.
