    3. Hello, My name is Judy and I'm new to the list. I've recently found some info that leads me to believe my great grandfathers 2nd wife was killed in an accident in Paragould, AR about 1903. I would like to know if anyone recognizes the name Isabel FULLER, husband Zion FULLER? I don't know what her maiden name was or if in fact they we legally married. They had 3 daughters, Carmen, Gertrude and Irene, who were given up when their mother died. If any of this sounds familiar, I would love to hear about it. Thanks in advance for any assistance. 2. Tina, I have been reading the correspondence regarding the adoption of the Cherokee Children. You said to keep the ideas coming. My suggestion to the parents would be, of course if they are willing, make an agreement with the Cherokee Nation to educate the children about their heritage and involve them in Cherokee Events and Functions. Possibly in this way, the children will enjoy the benefit of loving parents as well as knowing their heritage and continuing it's life. Not the same as being reared in the environment, but apparently there are no Cherokee parents to take the children. Robin J.

    2. Dale Foresythe
    3. The Guion Miller index includes the names of all persons applying for compensation arising from the judgment of the United States Court of Claims on May 28, 1906, for the Eastern Cherokee tribe. While numerous individuals applied, not all the claims were allowed. The information included on the index is the application number, the name of the applicant, and the State or Territory in which the individual resided at the time the application was filed. See instructions for ordering copies of these applications. http://www.accessgenealogy.com/native/guionmiller/ Good luck with your search! 1. Re: [ARGREENE] Indian Children
    2. I wish there were some way for me to help these people but I have sorta the same brick wall where the rumor of Native American Ancestry is concerned. It is unfortunate that a matter of undocumented racial heritage would deprive children of two loving parents and the security of a stable home. Perhaps if it is well thought out a compromise with the Tribal Members who are the authorities in this case is possible if only to extend the situation into the future until such time that these people can establish their ancestry. Perhaps the Tribal Members would consider appointing someone or even another couple to act as God parents for these children to assure that they learn the culture and heritage the Nation feels is so important. It is certainly more likely for these children to learn what they need to know under such a circumstance rather than being moved from foster home to foster home. Of course the would-be parents would have to agree to abide by the time the children would need to spend with the God parents but that is the way of compromise. While this may only be a band aide to take care of the immediate future, it may give this family a chance to establish themselves to the Nations satisfaction. Perhaps everyone involved would learn something valuable from this kind of relationship. It is great to find the names of unknown ancestors but so much more satisfying to know why your ancestors were. Best wishes to everyone, Linda

This same thing happened in my family a couple of years ago. I and some others looked feverishly to find proof of Indian heritage but could find none. The family lost the little Indian boy in the end. They had had him since a baby and he knew no other family. The boys mothers family ended up with him, they were Indian and had all the rights according to the laws of the Tribe. It is a very hard situation, the Indian Council does carry alot of power.
