I will list below the districts that you will see in both of the first two census.These are in Indian Territory of Oklahoma. YOU CAN ALSO APPLY THESE SAME LETTERS TO THE ONE"S IN THE SURNAME REPORTS. For those of you who are not familiar with Native American Roll title's, I will list them also. These also can be applied to the surname reports. IMPORTANT NOTICE : These records are all from original documents. 1869 CNWest Census These Jim Hicks transcribed from photocopies of the original document. 1880 CNWColored Census These were transcribed by Barbara Benge from photocopies of the original. 1902 Dawes Freedmen These are OCR transcriptions scanned from a NARA index to the 1902 Dawes. Jim Hicks has worked a lot with the Cherokee by Blood transcriptions and says there are errors. 1906 Dawes Freedmen Minors Same as above. Now I suggest that any of you who are using these names in your family geneology, MUST and SHOULD refer to 3 books, that I know can be bought cheaply, for this FREEDMEN RESEARCH. Those books are: <A HREF="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0963377418/ref=ase_inktomi-bkasin-20/104-8078597-4807921 ">Cherokee Roots, Volume 1: Eastern Cherokee Rolls</A> and VOL 2 also.( you can buy cheaply in a set), by Bob Blankenship A reader, East Texas, USA, April 9, 2001 This set is a MUST have for those tracing your Cherokee root This set contains the Official US Census Rolls of Cherokee Indians recorded between 1817-1924. Volume one covers those Cherokee living East of the Mississippi River, Volume 2 covers Cherokee who were living West of the Mississippi River. These same rolls are still used today in determining tribal... <A HREF=" http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0788404954/qid=1018487912/sr=1-2/ref=sr_1_2/104-8078597-4807921">Index to the Cherokee Freedmen Enrollment Cards of the Dawes Commission 1901-1906</A> by Jo Ann Curls Page (Paperback - January 1995) I find Jo Ann's book to be a real asset to comparing the Freedmen Roll numbers and her book also gives the names of the parents, and the Freedmen Minors, as well as the Rejected Freedmen.
