I'm sorry, but are there typos in this census? It looks as if the wife is only 4 years old at the birth of her first child. Also the marriage record seems odd, as it is after all the children are born. Also the marriage record seems odd, as it is after all the children are born. Nope, no typos. Mary was married to someone named Pulley first, and the step-son, Arthur Pulley, is her son from that marriage. Then Mary married James Smith in 1899 or 1900. (The census showed they'd been married "1 year," but that could be anywhere from a few months to over a year. I think that's probably their marriage record I found in Sharp Co. in 1900. James Smith was also married before, and all the Smith kids are his from his previous marriage(s). None of the children listed belong to both of them. At least that's how I interpret it. > 1900 Fulton Co., AR -- Afton Twp. -- 15 Jun 1900 -- p. 192 > > Smith, James 50 Mar 1850 MO KY IL Head md. 1 yr. > Mary 27 Jan 1873 AR TN TN Wife 1 ch./1 liv. > Edmond 22 Nov 1877 AR MO AR Son > Bert(?)
