Morn-in Bernie We have in our tree Sarah/Sophronia Francis Wiseman born February 08, 1856 in Gold Run, Placer County, California daughter of William Wallace Wiseman born about 1828 in Tenn. and Frances Morris born 1832 in Tenn. We got this info from Sharon Lawson 25 August 2001 LGMaude@aol.com. Not sure where she got the info with the name of Sophronia. This would not be our Sophronia because as we have been told she married John Abbott Emery and died in California. Our grandma Sophronia Married James Ferguson Montgomery and is buried in the Humphries / Montgomery Cemetery in Arkansas. We are almost for sure that one of Sarah/Sophronia's uncles is the farther of our Grama Sophronia. There names are: Martin Thomas Wiseman, Jr born about 1817, Moss Wiseman born unknown, Daniel Thomas Wiseman born 13 March 1813, Mary Margarey Wiseman born abt 1826, Elizabeth Wiseman Abt 1833, Jonathon Tipton Wiseman born 5 Sept 1834, Absolom Mc (Port ) Wiseman born 5 Sept 1834 and Sarah / Sophronia's dad William Wallace Wiseman born abt 1828. I am going back over the the WA., OR. and CA. info now. Have you Ever come across any thing on Moss Wiseman? Vera It is more then you asked for but I am going to take a chance at being shot by the old timers of the lists for posting this again. Like you say there are newbe's out there all the time. Who knows just maybe. Thanks again for your time that you take to help all of us on the lists. JIM Montgomery LOOKING FOR SOPHRONIA/SAFRONIA Davenport ( Wiseman ) Montgomery Family Sophronia Davenport Wiseman was born 24 February 1851 in Arkansas, and died May 8th, 1904 in Arkansas. She married James Ferguson Montgomery 6 July 1871. She is buried in Humphries Cemetery, Fulton County, Arkansas. We found that the middle initial "D." was the name Davenport. The children of Sophronia D. Wiseman and James Ferguson Montgomery were Mary Frances Montgomery born about. 1873 married D. L. Hatman we think this was Daniel Hatman . Alfred T. Montgomery born April 14, 1874, Izard County, Arkansas and died 25 March 1964. He is buried in the Wiseman Cemetery, Wiseman Arkansas. Married Ellis / Ellen Buchanan Amanda Elizabeth Patterson Montgomery, born October 1883 in Arkansas. Married James K. Polk Rhodes William Ignatious Montgomery ( MY GRANDPA ) born 11 September 1886, Morriston, Arkansas. He died June 1965. Buried in the Marked Tree Cemetery, Marked Tree, Arkansas. Married Susan Emma Lynch Lilly Leeonis Montgomery born 31 March 1880, Fulton County, Arkansas. Married Sherman Herbert Cooper Samuel Leondis Montgomery born 31 March 1890, Morriston, Arkansas. He died 9 February 1984. Married Maggie Alberta Rider We found Sophronia in the 1870 Fulton County census living in the Wiley C. King household and in the 1880 and 1900 Fulton County census married to James. What we are really looking for is some information about her parents and/or siblings. On every census we have found, her parents and Sophronia were supposedly born in Arkansas. In the 1850 census there were three Wiseman's living in Fulton County, that we know of, so we are pining our hopes on one of them. They were all in 1850, Fulton County, Union Township on page 158, Thomas and Mary, Absolem and Nancy and Davenport and Matilda. Part of E-Mail 1 Feb 2001 from: Charles and Dee Colvin chrdcol@gte.net Hi Judie? Nice to meet a distant cousin!! Yes, my mother use to speak of Sophronia Davenport WISEMAN, and her name is among those that were in the family Bible. (Note it was a King Family Bible per Dee Colvin) The Bible has Safronia D. Wiseman Born 24 February 1851 Married James F. Montgomery 6 July 1871 We have also had a letter from Mr. Tom Chapman who is researching the Wiseman family. He wrote: "You can be sure that Sophronia is a descendant of either Martin or Davenport Wiseman - brothers, whose families settled in Arkansas. The lived for quite a few years in Tennessee but were natives of North Carolina - sons of Thomas and Cordelia Wiseman. Thomas was the first son of William and Mary (Davenport ) Wiseman." E-Mail from Fern Estes at earlfernestes@centurytel.net dated 18 March 2003 Jim, In the 1850 census for Fulton Co. AR, Union Township I found Devenport Wiseman, age 25, b. TN; wife Matilda, age 26, b. AL. No children. Looks promising with Sophronia's middle name being Davenport. At this time, not sure of much on Sophronia. In the 1920 Mississippi County Arkansas census William Ignatious (Nash) Montgomery , has Sophronia Davenport ( Wiseman ) Montgomery his mama , my GGrandma born in Arkansas and his daddy born in Arkansas. But we know for sure that his daddy was born in North Carolina. In the 1910 Mississippi County Arkansas census William Ignatious (Nash) Montgomery , has Sophronia Davenport ( Wiseman ) Montgomery his mama , my GGrandma born in Canada and his daddy born in Wyoming. But we know for sure that his daddy was born in North Carolina The info from the 1870 and 1880 Census we have say Sophronia Davenport Wiseman was born in Arkansas. Morn-in Cuz Janis Thanks for the added info. We have a 1910 and 1920 census for Theodore see below. It has a daughter born abt 1918 or 1919 but can not make the spelling out for sure. Everytime I see the Montgomery name mentioned on this list I wonder if those who are researching the name know about the Carr-Montgomery Funeral Home in Thayer, Oregon, MO. It's just over the line from Mammoth Spring in Fulton Co. A father and son bought it back in the early 70's I believe and the son still runs it. I don't know more than that but thought it worth mentioning. Catherine pabst wrote: > Hi Gene, > > I looked in our file, and do not find a Ralph or a Karlena. All Fulton County Cemeteries are now on the AR-CEM site, thanks to Charlie Ward and the many hours involved in putting these cemeteries on line, and thanks to the Fulton County EHC Cemetery Committee for their support. There are over 11,000 names on the Fulton County site with a lot of them buried in unmarked graves. Many more unknown graves are in these cemeteries. If you know of any of these people in the unmarked graves or if you see any needed corrections, please contact us. We would love to hear from you. The cemeteries will be periodically updated and your input will help make them more accurate. ===== Gene genrit@yahoo.com Dedicated to the preservation of Ancestral names. http://www.rootsweb.com/~arcemete/fulton/fulton.htm __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
