My mother was afraid of thunderstorms. She would go through the house unplugging the TV, toaster, whatever..... and no need to try and call her on the phone to see how she was :) .... In Memory of my "MomMa" Lillie Willis Langley <Post> Feb 14, 1910 - Jan 07 2002 [VERMONT] Rutland County Independent, June 15, 1867 SAD CALAMITY During the prevalence of the thunder showers in this vicinity about noon Thursday, two ladies, the wife and daughter of Mr.James S. Willis of Mendon, while standing in the door of their residence, were struck by lightning and killed. The electric fluid entered the house at the chimney, damaging it somewhat and passed down to the second story where it struck a pile of old hoop skirts, setting them on fire; from there it passed to another pile of skirts in the same room, some eight foot distant and directly over the doorway in which the deceased were standing, whence it went through the floor, striking Mrs. and Miss Willis and, it is believed, killing them Instantly. As soon as they were struck they pitched forward into the dooryard, Mrs. Willis in her fall striking upon a stone step with such force as to fracture her skull, thereby inflicting a frightful wound upon her forehead, which alone was deemed sufficient to have produced her death. Two younger children of Mrs. Willis were in another portion of the house at the time of the shock and as they made no outcry for some minutes thereafter, it is supposed that they too were temporarily prostrated, thought they escaped without injury. A neighbor who was approaching the house, in the dooryard, was stunned by the chock, but fell against one of the walls of the house and saved himself from falling to the ground. An employee of Mr. Willis, who was standing under a wagon shed in the yard was also prostrated and Mr. Willis and another employee who were approaching the house from the opposite side, sustained similar shocks, and Mr. W. is still suffering from the effects thereof. A horse which was being driven by the residence of Mr. Willis was also prostrated, as were several fowls standing at the time in the yard. Dr. B. H. Haynes of this place was called and every available effort made to resuscitate the unfortunate ladies, but without avail. The affair is one of the saddest which has occurred in this vicinity for some time and the afflicted family have the sympathies of the entire community in their affliction. The deceased were aged respectively 36 and 16 years. Their funeral took place at the church in Mendon on Friday. (from the RUTLAND HEARLD) *****T. F. Dear List Member, I need help to determine if there were two William M. Adams living in the area. I found a William M. Adams born 1835 as son of Matthew and Pryscilla Catherine Wolf Adams. I believe he had at least two wives: Luisa Unknown and Orlena/Arlena/ Doxlena J. Unknown. The last time I found him he was in Texas on the 1880 census. I know that his parents moved to Texas before the Civil War so I believe this is the right relationship here. I find reference to a William Martin Adams, parents unknown to me, who married Nancy Arnold and then Susan Smith Ledford Adams. I need to know if I have this information correct as two men or should I have the information all under one man, married four times? I desperately need to know the name of the parents of the William Martin Adams who married to the Susan Smith Ledford as her second husband and she as his second wife, probably there in Baxter, Izard, Marion, Fulton or Shapr counties. If you can help, please contact: dbton@yahoo.com

I'm on Qwest.net and every time one of these major viruses hits, my messages will nearly stop. I'll have several hit all at once and they will be days old. I'm only guessing that is what the problem is. Where I normally run 50-60 emails a day, I've been down to only a dozen. I too miss the "action" Even though a lot of the conversations on the Fulton county list don't have anything to do with my families, I enjoy having an idea about people they might have known. Morning Dale and Vera Thanks for the info Still after the family of great grandma Sophronia Davenport ( Wiseman ) Montgomery. We have two direction we are going right now. One of the directions we are going is she may be the grand daughter of Martin Thomas Wiseman, Sr born about 1797 and Ann Ennis. That would make her the daughter of one of the below. We are going to build a tree with all the info we have and can get on each of them. So as to take them out of the running one at a time. With the info you have sent here some what takes William Wallace Wiseman out because he has a daughter Sarah / Sophronia Francis WISEMAN born February 08, 1856 in Gold Run, Placer County, California. Died November 09, 1936 in Kaweah, Tulare County, California. Married John Abbott EMERY born Abt. 1848 in Mass. Married: Abt. 1875. We know ours was born February 24, 1851. Died May 08, 1904. Married to James Ferguson Montgomery. He also has a son Richard Bell Wiseman born September 04, 1851. That would have him being born only 6 Months after our Sophronia. The other direction is that she may be the grand daughter of Glover Davenport Wiseman. In a E-mail from Harriett Beach to Judy dated 4 January 2001. She has: I've never come across Sophonia Davenport Wiseman. she isn't Martin's daughter unless he married again after the 1850 census. By 1850 he was 53 and his twins were 16. Martin's sons have been pretty well researched and she doesn't seem to fit with any of them. On the Fulton County 1850 census there are three Wiseman couples that could be the parents of a child born the next year. They are all in Union Township on page 158 of the census, Thomas and Mary, Absolem and Nancy, and Davenport and Matilda. I don't know whether these men were brothers or cousins or what. I've done a pretty thorough job of documenting Martin's sons William Wallace Wiseman and Jonathon Tipton Wiseman and the daughter Elizabeth. There is evidence that Elizabeth and the twins, Jonathon and Absolem were' not the children of Ann Ennis. There mother was probably Sarah Moore. I don't know when Martin's first wife died nor do I know when he married Sarah. There is no evidence of Jonathon twin, Absolem after 1850 but family lore says he was killed in a horse racing accident as a teenager. William W., his wife Frances Morris, their infant son and Johnathon came west in 1852. I think by that time Martin and Absolem were both dead and Jonathon's sisters were both married. Don't give a lot of credence to the fact that the censuses say that Sophonia's parents were born in Arkansas. They may or may not have been. All of Martin's kids were born in Tennessee.
