    1. Still Looking for Elusive Alvin Godwin
    2. Ginger Smith
    3. Thanks Dale for the information from the AR Death Index. I am still having trouble finding any information on Alvin Theodore Godwin. I know he was born to David Orr Godwin and shows up in census reports up to 1930. I'm trying to locate his children. I believe he had two. On one census report, he is married to a name I cannot decipher, then married to "Ella" in another report. Then Divorced, then widowed. I was wondering if someone could search the AR marriage records for Alvin Godwin to ? around 1899-1900 ??? He was in Fulton Co. his whole life. Thanks! 3. I'm not sure a trip to Salem would help you out. Of course you would get to see and enjoy our beautiful AR and you never know what might show up. The courthouse did burn in the late 1880's and no birth or death records were kept until 1914 and not all were kept even after that. If the DR didn't fill out the forms, most of the time, the record was not recorded. You best bet might be the AR History Comm. in Little Rock. There might be a obit from a local newspaper. If he lived at Viola, at his death in 1910, that could either be Salem or Mt. Home or could be some newspaper up in MO, Like West Plains. Viola is just south of the MO- AR line. You might find a copy of the newspaper on rolodex. I think the AR. History Comm. has copies of all that were copied. The newspaper at Salem does have some of their old papers, just not sure how far back. It is call The News now. 3. I have the book of Cemeteries of Fulton County and it shows in the Viola Cemetery a Rev. W. D. Hiney buried there in grave 84N18. Also a Matcet Hiner in grave 84N19. If you will write to me privately, I will give you an address of my cousin who lives in Viola who could give answers to your questions about the baptist church. I live in Tulsa, OK. 3. > I am interested in AR. Counties census 1930, Can I find it on line or a place to purchase same. If you mean are the 1930 records transcribed and accessible for free, only a few have been transcribed so far. You just have to do an internet search for the county of interest because they're scattered. However, most of the hits you get are going to direct you to Ancestry.com to subscribe. However, if you mean are the images and an index for 1930 available online for free, the answer's yes. Please see my long post from Friday... http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/ARFULTON/2005-07/1122683663 It takes a little digging, but you can usually find what you're looking for. 3. > Is Pro Quest the owners of HQ ? I was wondering if they are going to do away with HQ hope not I like ancestry but like the the image better from HQ. Not exactly. From what I can tell, ProQuest just distributes AncestryLibrary Edition which is virtually identical to Ancestry.com. It's for libraries and other institutions only and replaces the former AncestryPlus Edition of the same. MyFamily.com apparently still owns Ancestry.com and AncestryLibrary Edition. This was the announcement from a year ago: ProQuest Announces Exclusive Distribution of Ancestry Library Edition for Library Market New digital genealogy resource from MyFamily.com will replace Ancestry Plus ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN - June 25, 2004 - ProQuest Information and Learning announces exclusive rights to distribute a new product, Ancestry Library Edition, from MyFamily.com, Inc., in the library market. The new agreement gives ProQuest the two premier genealogy resources: HeritageQuest Online (TM), ProQuest's popular library genealogy and family history database, and Ancestry Library Edition, an enhanced edition of MyFamily.com's popular consumer genealogy database, Ancestry.com. Ancestry Library Edition will replace the Ancestry Plus database for current subscribers. ProQuest Information and Learning, a unit of ProQuest Company (NYSE:PQE), creates and publishes databases to libraries and educational institutions worldwide. MyFamily.com, based in Provo, Utah, publishes electronic and print resources for family historians. Key collections in Ancestry Library Edition include: - Immigration Collection: New York Passenger Lists, San Francisco Passenger Lists, and New York Petitions for Naturalization - US Data Collection including US Birth, Marriage and Death Collection, World War I Draft Registration Cards, and Social Security Death Index - US Census Collection including US Census 1790-1930 images and indexes - UK and Ireland Collection including England and Wales Census Images and Indexes, England and Wales Civil Registration Index 1837-present, and England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales Parish and probate record 1500s-1837 "The resources in Ancestry Library Edition are an excellent complement to HeritageQuest Online. By providing both databases to libraries, we're able to meet more fully libraries' needs for genealogical, demographic, and historical research. The agreement is a great fit for customers in this rapidly growing research area, for both hobbyists and professionals. Users will gain rich sources of content and search tools for illuminating their ancestry," said Rod Gauvin, ProQuest senior vice president, marketing and publishing. ProQuest will continue to distribute Heritage Quest and all its component data sets of the US Census, the PERiodical Source Index (PERSI) and Genealogical and Local History Collection (G&LH). Freedman's Bank Records and the Revolutionary War Pension Records are also slated to be added to HeritageQuest Online. There's also information on ProQuest's site: http://www.proquest.com/techsupport/prodfaq/gen_pd.shtml ...as well as the "Read what is new" page on HQ itself. Note: Don't bother to subscribe to the electronic mailing list at the bottom of that last page. I've been subscribed for two years and have never received a thing.
