    3. Morn-in Rosetta They are the ones. Thanks for thr info It has Aunt Alta's Daddy born in Mo. . We know that her daddy William Ignatius (Nash) MONTGOMERY was born in Morriston, Fulton County, Arkansas. It has her Mama Susan Emma LYNCH born in Mo.. What we have on her, she was born in Arkansas. But over the years we have found census records that we are sure that do not have the right birth place's. Great Grama Sophronia Davenport WISEMAN, mother of William Ignatius (Nash) MONTGOMERY is our main brick wall. See below LOOKING FOR SOPHRONIA/SAFRONIA Sophronia D. WISEMAN was born February 24,1851 in Arkansas, and died May 8th, 1904 in Arkansas. She married James Ferguson MONTGOMERY 6 July 1871. She is buried in Humphries Cemetery, Fulton County, Arkansas. We found that the middle initial "D." was the name DAVENPORT. The children of Sophronia D. WISEMAN and James Ferguson MONTGOMERY were Mary Frances MONTGOMERY born about. 1873, Alfred T. MONTGOMERY born April 14, 1874, Izard County, Arkansas and died 25 March 1964. He is buried in the Wiseman Cemetery, Wiseman Arkansas. Amanda Elizabeth Patterson MONTGOMERY, born October 1883 in Arkansas. William Ignatius MONTGOMERY born 11 September 1886, Morriston, Arkansas. He died June 1965. Buried in the Marked Tree Cemetery, Marked Tree, Arkansas. Lilly Leeonis MONTGOMERY born 31 March 1880, Fulton County, Arkansas. Samuel Leondis Montgomery born 31 March 1890, Morriston, Arkansas. He died 9 February 1984. We found her in the 1870 Fulton County census living in the Wiley C. King household and in the 1880 and 1900 Fulton County census married to James. What we are really looking for is some information about her parents and/or siblings. On every census we have found, her parents and Sophronia were supposedly born in Arkansas. In the 1850 census there were three Wiseman's living in Fulton County, that we know of, so we are pining our hopes on one of them. They were all in Union Township on page 158, Thomas and Mary, Absolem and Nancy and Davenport and Matilda. Part of E-Mail 1 Feb 2001 from: Charles and Dee Colvin chrdcol@gte.net Hi Judie? Nice to meet a distant cousin!! Yes, my mother use to speak of Sophronia Davenport WISEMAN, and her name is among those that were in the family Bible. (Note it was a King Family Bible per Dee Colvin) The Bible has Safronia D. Wiseman Born 24 February 1851 Married James F. Montgomery 6 July 1871 We have also had a letter from Mr. Tom Chapman who is researching the Wiseman family. He wrote: "You can be sure that Sophronia is a descendant of either Martin or Davenport Wiseman - brothers, whose families settled in Arkansas. They lived for quite a few years in Tennessee but were natives of North Carolina - sons of Thomas and Cordelia Wiseman. Thomas was the first son of William and Mary (Davenport ) Wiseman." When we went back home to see some of our family in April 2003 Uncle Joe MONTGOMERY said all he can remember any one saying about her was that they were called Pappy and Mammy. Thanks in advance Jim and Judy (Shuck) Montgomery up here in South Haven, Michigan Jim RTeach1@aol.com wrote: >This must be the frank Fleeman you are looking for: > >Fleeman, Frank > > Age: 18 Year: > 1930 > Birthplace: Arkansas Roll: > T626_85 > Race: White Page: > 2A > State: Arkansas ED: > 2 > County: Mississippi Image: > 0031 > > Township: Big Lake > Relationship: Head >April 3, 1930 >HH 24 24 living on Herman Davis Highway >Fleeman, Frank 18 at first marriage 18 AR MO MO cotton farmer > Alta 19 19 AR MO MO > > > >

    3. Hi Dora, Could you give us a marriage date and place for your Newton Jasper Comstock and Malinda Smith? Ripley Co. MO marriage record lists three Comstock marriages: William Cumpstock (Comstock?) m. Delila Carter 10 Mar 1836 Thomas Cumstock (Comstock?) m. Polly Carter 15 Jan 1837 John Smith married Polly Cumstock (Comstock ?) 12 Jan 1840. We have thought that these Comstock names must be related. William Comstock and John Smith are listed in Ripley Co 1840 Census. Shannon Co. MO was created out of Ripley Co in 1840 and in 1850 Shannon Co. Census William Comstock's wife Delilah is married to David Alley and 3 Comstock children are listed in the Alley household. With the mention of Newton Jasper Comstock and Malinda Smith, we wonder if Malinda Smith might be related to John Smith. Also Newton J. is a name which is repeated in William's son Jonathan's family. We will look for a relationship. Anything more about Newton Jasper Comstock or Malinda Smith would be appreciated. 1. [ARFULTON] DODGE families
    2. Melissa Pedrick
    3. I am looking for any information on the DODGE families that moved into Fulton Co. The first census I have is for ALONZO DODGE in 1900, living in Afton. ENOCH and JUDY DODGE lived in Mammoth Springs in 1900 before returning to Afton. FRANK and AMANDA lived in Afton in the 1910 census. MOLLIE DODGE THOMPSON lived with her husbands family in Mammoth Springs in the 1900 census. I would appreciate any information on these families or any families related to this family.

    3. Thanks. Silas Hutson married Nancy Smith, Oct. 28, 1847, White Co., TN and was on the 1850 Census in Pike Co., AR near probable parents, Isaac and Jane Hutson. Hennett L. (Harriet?) was one year old, born in Arkansas. The 1860 census, Pike Co., AR, shows additional children, Isaac L, born 1852 and N. J. (female), 1855, not named on the 1880 Census. 3. I was doing research on the Comstock family for Eldridge Comstock. I had just gotten started when he passed away so I stopped and only have some handwritten notes. I do have some of the family history on Family Tree Maker. I have intended to put what I have together and send to Jim & Wanda Hobbs but have been just too busy and haven't done it. I now have five people looking for Comstock information so I will try to get it together soon. Elizabeth (Eliza) Comstock is buried in an unmarked grave in the Hutcherson Cemetery which is close to the Izard County Line. The cemetery is about a mile off the road and badly overgrown. Eliza is buried close to her son William 1866 to 1907 (husb of Mattie). She had two other sons, John W. and Newton J. They are buried in Elizabeth Cemetery as is Mattie. Here is a quick review: 1.William Comstock b 1819 Married Delilah b 1819 2. Jonathan Comstock b 1839 Ripley Co Mo. Jonathan married Elizabeth b 1837 in 1857 They had six children 3a.Delilla 3b.Mary 3c.Martha 3d.William M 3e.John W 3f.Newton J I have a copy of a picture of Elizabeth if anyone is interested I can email it. ===== Gene genrit@yahoo.com Dedicated to the preservation of Ancestral names. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? 3. Hi Liz, This is what we have on William and Delilah (Comstock) Shoemate Family. Descendants of William Shoemate 1 SHOEMATE, William b: Abt. 1843 in Missouri . +COMSTOCK, Delila b: Abt. 1859 Father: COMSTOCK, Jonathan Mother: UNK, Elizabeth ...... 2 SHOEMATE, William Samuel b: August 30, 1886 d: June 30, 1949 Burial: Elizabeth, AR .......... +UNK, Texanna b: January 31, 1888 d: January 07, 1962 Burial: Elizabeth, AR .............. 3 SHOEMATE, William R. b: Abt. 1907 .............. 3 SHOEMATE, Francis L. b: Abt. 1908 ...... 2 SHOEMATE, Ida b: August 1892 ...... 2 SHOEMATE, John F. b: March 1895 William & Delilah Shoemate are in the 1880 Union & Mill twp Baxter Co. AR Census living next door to Eliza Comstock (Delilah's mother). In 1900 Big Creek twp, Fulton Co AR Census, Delilah Shoemate is listed as a widow, mother of 3/3 living. Children in household with her are Ida A. (1892) and John F (1895) In 1910 Delilah Comstock is in Big Creek twp, Fulton Co. AR census, divorced. Children Ida and John live with her and son W. S. (William Samuel) Shoemate lives next door. We assume that William and Delilah were divorced by 1900 and by 1910 Delilah is going by her maiden name Comstock. In 1910 Pleasant Ridge Fulton Co. Census is Shoemate, William F 68 md 10 yrs Martha E. 39 had 0 children Johnson, Maybell 7 lodger It is possible that this is William Shoemate with a second wife???? His age seems to fit. 1. Re: [ARFULTON] Fulton county history?
    2. In answer to the john/sherry query (that's my daughter and son-in-law too) I can only speak for the depression years. Fulton Co. was cotton, corn, and cane crops, hard rocky soil, sparce population, but hardworking church going farmers! My ggrandfather William Martin Green was a Cumberland Presbyterian Minster in Mammoth Springs in the late 1880's- a thriving community near the spring! A book entitled Arkansas Angels is a good example of men who traveled usually by horseback from congregation to congregation debating their particular form of belief. My immediate family could not survive the harsh conditions during the depression years, and took the chance to move elsewhere in search of work. Now over 50 years later, going home, little has changed. But it's still home...Volamae in Florida

    1. [ARFULTON] Fulton county history?
    2. John/Sherry Quade
    3. I have just been browsing through the Fulton County list's archives. I see all the names and places listed and wonder how many of these were familiar to my ancestors. I grew up in Southwest Missouri and always knew that my grandmother and siblings had been born in Mammoth Springs, Arkansas, but never even knew where it was located or gave it much thought. I developed an interest in genealogy after moving to Colorado. My grandmother's immediate family left Mammoth Springs around 1916. I am curious what Fulton County was like around the turn of the century. Was it a farming community? How did people make their living? Someone once told me that my great great grandfather, William Wright had a place at Many Islands. I have found today that is a recreational area. What was it in the late 1800's and early 1900's? I'm told that William performed marriage ceremonies for family members, was he minister or justice of the peace? My families in Fulton County were the Wrights, Jones, and Kissee families. I know that some of the family was there in the 1880's and on. I'm curious what was the attraction to Fulton County and what was it like. If anyone is willing to share some of the history, I would be very pleased. Thank you, Sherry Quade Granddaughter of Mattie Lillian (Jones) Duckworth Great granddaughter of Frank and Carmen (Wright) Jones Great great granddaughter of William and Cynthia (Kissee) Wright
