    1. Re: [ARFULTON] Memorial Day - Lonely Graves
    2. Just another graveyard story. My daughter is buried in a little country cemetary in Florida. She has been there almost 50 years....Only a small white simple stone marked her grave. About a month before christmas my daughter, (her sister) and her husband asked I meet them at Jan's grave one after noon. They had replaced the small stone with a beautiful pink marble flat stone with two clasped hands with the inscription, " A child in the hand of God"...The small marker is in my daughter's garden to remind her of her sister...Visiting cemetaries is one of my favorite pastimes...I have lots of friends and relatives in Fulton/Arkansas cemetaries....Volamae in Florida

My parents are buried in OK, and I live in MO. Take flowers everytime I go. Couple of times they are there; more often one or both bouquets gone. That is something that the flowers your Mother left were still there after several years. Barbara

    2. Good job -- yes, I have done that at times when I've had extra flowers in my hand and know that I've never seen any on graves near my loved ones. There is something to be said about the old fashioned cemetery... where they do not take the old flowers away. In Ark, I recently went to an old cem. that my mother had visited before she died a few years ago... there on her great great grandmother's grave was the little wooden cross with plastic flowers on it that she had left there many years ago. I was moved; brought it home and will paint it and take it back in a few months. Janice

    3. Hi Liz! In an off-list message, Mari Lewis sent me some verses of a song about the event: One day in January 1947 The little town of Salem was a peaceful haven The people they were happy Just at the close of day when all of a sudden A cyclone came their way Some people were working And some had gone to town When out of a blacken sky A mighty storm came down So many lost their homes And everything they had Some of them were injured And felt so sad But no one lost their life There in that raging storm God was surely very near To call no one home But the sun came up next morn And shined the whole day long but the wind was cold and icy as it blew thru the throng there are 7 verses to this song.. 3. Hello again Sharon. Yes I do believe that we are indeed cousins (sorta). You descend from: George R. Manes 1785 Pleasant R. Manes John Wesley Manes Harry R. Manes I descend from: George R. Manes 1785 William L. Manes 1823 (brother to your Pleasant) David Allison Manes & Annie Helms Manes Cora Manes Strauser Albright (my Grandmother) Allie Strauser (my Dad) You asked about Richard Manes. There was a Richard Crayson Manes @ 1876 son of David Allison Manes. He was a half brother to my Grandmother Cora. You asked about Lehman B. Manes and Callie. There was a Lehman B. Manes s1891 - 1976 and California 1896 (possibly Callie) children of William B. Manes 1854. William B. Manes1854 was the son of William L. Manes 1823 (brother to Pleasant) I did not find a Bessie. Possily she married a Manes or maybe Bessie was a nickname for another name. I do not know who they married. I would love to have more on your lines for John Wesley Manes Family and Harry R. manes Family to add to my Family Treemaker files. I have to tell you that I have not worked on my Manes line to the extent that I have my Strauser line yet. Much of this Manes info. came from someone elses research. Whom I have not been able to find out. A lot of it was given to a cousin from someone else. ??? I had already done some research on my direct Manes line and I added this information to what I already had. I have been trying to proof as much as I can on my lines. I always use info like this as a key to researching for myself. I hope I have helped and did not mislead you. If anything here is incorrect please let me know if you find out differently. And oh yes we had a wonderful time in the mountains. Thanks, Patricia Strauser Johnson

    1. [ARFULTON] Re Richard Crowson Manes 1876----?
    2. Sharon, We have exchanged information before on this Richard Crowson Manes in June of 2002. Thought I would post it again, hopefully someone will have more information. The last I have on him is the 1900 Fulton Co., census. He was single. I cannot find him after 1900. I have search for him in several states on the 1910 census and searched the cemeteries in Fulton Co, so far he is not listed, I cannot find him. His father was, Davis Allison Manes, the son of William L. MANES(Manuss) and his wife Martha Malinda. McNAIR. William L. MANES and Martha Malinda McNAIR Children: MANES, Mary Ann abt 1849 Tenn Spouse unknown Malinda Jane Feb 2, 1850 Tenn d Feb 1, 1922, Okla + Cornelius Godfrey DACUS ( my lines) John W. MANES and 3 yr old son, R.C. is on the 1880 Fulton Co. # 98/103 South Fork Twp no wife listed. R.C. is listed as born Ark, Father Ark and Mother Missouri. living next door on one side to the McNair and the other side is the Ellison familles. David's parents 5 doors away. Richard C. MANES is living with the John Mayham family as single born Ark., on the 1900 Census, Fulton Co,, South Fork Twp., # 70/70 Line # 62 as a boarder, ED 29. age 24, listed as born Ark, father born Ark and mother born Missouri. His father, David A. MANES, wife Anna and their children were living next door. Richard Crowson MANES is listed in the DACUS Bible with the birth date of Nov 1876, the day is too faded to read. The statement "son of John Thomas DACUS" has us mystified. How could he be the son of JOHN THOMAS DACUS??? Why is this listed in the DACUS Bible? Just above this entry is the name "Margaret SHURHART" Have no idea who she is or why she is listed in the DACUS Bible. But suspect she could or may be the mother of Richard Crowson MANES. All of John Thomas DACUS's children have been traced, no connection to the MANES nor surname SHURHART. Jay yaerohs@aol.com I am a genealogy nut, but I am not cracked.

    3. Trisha - Bless your heart for answering. I am trying to straighten out a mix-up. I think we are probably cousins, but further back. The Richard and Lehman & Bessie & Ballard I am trying to learn about them. I was recently contacted by another coousin who thought her Lehman B Manes was my Lee Bruce Manes, son of John Wesley Manes & Harriet Almeda McNair, my great grandparents. She had Lehman B Manes m. to Callie Ballard & parents of Bessie. Then - I found another version that Richard Manes was m. to Callie Ballard & they were the parents of both Lehman & Bessie!! If you can help me get straight on them - I sure would appreciate it.If you happen to have their obituaries and or death cert or m. records that would be wonderful if you could e-mail me a copy of them. Monday would be fine - have a good trip to the mountains. We are supposed to get to 107 here in the Phoenix area today! Mountains and cool sound wonderful to me right now. Most of my immediate family were in Taney Co, MO & Boone Co, AR. I descend from Pleasant R Manes & first wife Mary Lucinda "Polly" Gibbs John Wesley Manes & Harriet Almeda McNair Harry R Manes & Alice Jane Brown - my grandparents. 3. Hi Dora, Thanks for thinking of us. We viewed the Comstock family website and didn't see any connection to our family. Since Charles Comstock is b. in 1874, MO, we would need to find his parents or grandparents before a connection could be made. We did note a Thomas Comstock in 1805 in MO. We will keep the file and perhaps find a connection some day. 3. Hi Dora, We have gone through our records again and can't see a connection. Our Comstock family was in MO most of the time your Chanberlin Comstock was in AR. If you knew Chamberlin's parents, we might connect. Our William Comstock (earliest) married in 1836 in Ripley Co. MO and the family didn't come to AR until between 1870 and 1800 census records. We can't seem to get William's parents. There was a Thomas and John Comstock in the same area as William and they could be brothers, cousins, etc. We were interested in the Ben Comstock you mentioned at first. Do you know anything more about him? Since Jasper Newton's last name was Campbell, is Ben's last name Campbell too? 3. Hi Dora, We have gone through our records again and can't see a connection. Our Comstock family was in MO most of the time your Chanberlin Comstock was in AR. If you knew Chamberlin's parents, we might connect. Our William Comstock (earliest) married in 1836 in Ribley Co.
