"Al" Beck died in Woodland Monday, July 1, 2002, at age 84. Born July 7, 1917, in Ozark, Ark., Mr. Beck had been a Dixon resident for more than 60 years. He owned and operated a Chevron service station in Dixon for several years and later was employed by UC Davis for 13 years. According to his family, "he enjoyed his bountiful garden and his family was his life." Mr. Beck is survived by his wife, Opal Beck of Dixon; daughter, Ladene Kindelt and husband David of Woodland; son, Larry Beck of Dixon; granddaughter, Kerry Clearwater and husband Mike of Dixon; grandsons, Kenny Meyer of Dixon and Barry Meyer of Kansas City, Mo.; and great-grandchildren, Meghan and Travis Clearwater and Derek and Josh Meyer, all of Dixon. He was preceded in death by his son, Gary Travis Beck, in 1962. A funeral service is scheduled at 2 p.m., Monday, July 8, at Milton Carpenter Funeral Home, 569 N. First St., Dixon, with Chaplain Gretchen Shilts officiating. Interment is scheduled to follow in Silveyville Cemetery, Dixon. Milton Carpenter Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
