From the every-name project of Franklin County, I find a Lewis R Hawkins, one time mayor of Mulberry. I'm not sure but its possible in 1870 Mulberry was in Crawford County (the county line changed at some point). At any rate Lewis R Hawkins and his wife Sarah E Jordan were both born in Franklin County and married 19 May 1861. Lewis son of Lewis and Sarah Smith. Sarah dau of William and Evelen. I am really interested in your Smith of Mulberry, Franklin Co., AR. My grandmother was Emeline Smith, born in Mulberry around 1867, the daughter of Samuel and Elmira (Ellen) Smith. Known siblings of Emeline were a brother John W., born in 1870, a sister California, a sister Samantha, and a brother Simon. California seems to have died young. I don't know anything about John W. or Simon--could you connect to one of them? Emeline married William T. Howard in 1884 at Van Buren and they lived in Mulberry in the 1880s and part of the 1890s before moving to Redland, Sequoyah County, then Indian Territory (later OK) in the late 1890s. Mulberry wasn't a very big place, so there may be a connection. I know very little about Emeline's family, other than the census records for them in 1870 and 1880. I understand that her father Samuel Smith served in the Union Army in the Civil War. He was born around 1836 in Monangalia Co., western VA. I know nothing else about them. In order to access the database I have to date. First, go to www.rootsweb.com Then Click on the link to the WorldConnect Project Main Page Then where it says "or jump to a specific database" you type in wjfranklin The direct URL is http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=wjfranklin&I11.x=26&I11.y= 3 This database has 16 to 17 hundred individuals in it. All of these are gleaned from combining the 1850 Census with the Franklin County Marriage books, and supplementing this with OPG (Other People's GEDCOMS) off rootsweb. Please note that in the 1850 Census, I estimate there were 38 to 39 hundred people in Franklin county, so I have only scratched the surface. Completing this phase may take several months and I would hazard there would be about 15 thousand people in the database by that time, which would be the 3800 people actually IN the county, and then their parents, spouses and childrens spouses perhaps.... I still will need assistance from someone who is actually IN or NEAR Franklin County (which I am not) to do some research on records that are not accessible through the Internet. Will--- Can I ask you a question? How do I access your Datbase on Roots Web? You gave name of Data base---but what name do you have to type in on Worldconnect to acess that data base?? I have a family that was in Franklin Co AR from midd 1850's they are on the 1860 Franklin Co census Family of LUKE FORD. Their son is in Bio. of Franklin Co -- James Ford.(this is later than you cut off date of 1860) Your project sounds very interesting. Thanks for your help.
