Was going through some old files and found this letter from a descendant of Sarah Thompson, wife of John Rose, parents of Martha Rose, wife of g-grandfather Joseph B. Ivy. Figured that perhaps several members of this family are buried at Hight.... Somewhere, Will, is the missing link, that will tie up the Ivy clan with a beautiful bow and I'll get to quit looking. thanks again folks.

I would like to annotate this message with WHO these people were to wit: Ivie, Lt. James R., b.Aug 11, 1837, d.Sept 1, 1866 This was the person who married Mary C Ivey daughter of James Ivey and Lydia. I do not however know who the parents of this younger James were. Mary and James were married 12 Aug 1866 in Franklin Co. He lived less than one month more! I guess married life didn't agree with him! At any rate, Mary married again 7 years later to Thomas B Ford, as MRS Mary C Ivey in Franklin Co. Mary Ford is listed with her parents in 1880 in Ivey township. By 1900 Thomas, Mary and her aged mother Lydia Ivey had all moved to Eugene, Oregon. Ivy, Joseph G., b.April 11, 1841, d.May 12, 1873 This is the second son of James Ivey and Lydia already mentioned above. Their eldest son William Riley Ivey died in Washington Co and I believe him to be buried at White Oak. His first wife Mary Frances Snodgrass was the dau. of old Isaac Snodgrass a pioneer in Mulberry, being there on the 1830 census. Joseph had married to Susan "Aint'ney" in Franklin and after he died, Susan remarried to Robert Bean Snodgrass, Mary's brother, and another child of Isaac. Robert and Susan moved to Eugene, Oregon where they both died and are buried in the Pioneer Cemetary there, near their shirt-tale relation, old Lydia Ivey. Ivy, Joseph G., son of J.G. and M.J., bFeb 28, 1873, d.Aug 5, 1873 This must be an error. Joseph and Susan were married in 1868, Joseph the father died 12 May 1873. Ivy, Tennessee V., b.May 8, 1847, d.Feb 26, 1873. Another son of James Ivey and Lydia. Tennessee married Martha J Flowers dau of Wyatt Flowers and his wife Mary J. After Mary J died, Wyatt remarried to Martha (unknown) Harris. She had previously been married to a Mr Harris. Wyatt had seven children from the first wife and three more from the second one. James and Lydia Ivey had the following children: 1) William Riley Ivey b 7 May 1838 Missouri d 1910 Washington Co, Arkansas 1860 Mulberry, 1870 Mulberry, 1880 Lick Mountain, Conway Co, 1900 Elm Springs, Washington Co m1 28 Aug 1856 Franklin Co Mary Frances Snodgrass dau of Isaac b 11 Dec 1839 Mulberry d 29 Dec 1876 Washington Co m2 21 May 1877 Franklin Co Frances Jennette Wade b 2 Mar 1843 Alabama or Tennessee (m2 Henderson Hardin 1865) 2) Joseph G Ivey (maybe "Green") b 11 Apr 1841 Mulberry d 12 May 1873 Franklin Co bur Jackson Cemetary 1850 Mulberry, 1870 Mulberry m1 2 Feb 1868 Franklin CO Susan M (Proctor ?) 3. You should be able to order a copy of the marriage record from the Johnson County Courthouse in Clarksville. Most contain only the names of the parties, their ages and where they lived. Occasionally, you get lucky and find approval from a parent if the girl was under age. Eldon J. 2. Pansylea, I just started doing this search on my Smith line, all I had to start with was my grandfather's name; (my grandfather) HARRY N. SMITH b.Jan.29,1899 or 1900 Denning Arkansas.(he died B'ham,Alabama in the 1970's) Later I learned: His parents were; Laura Bell EUBANKS in Coal Hill Arkansas abt.1881 or1885 & JOHN THOMAS SMITH b.Feb.11,1871 Alix Arkansas. (Laura died 1918 in Illinois) with pneumonia. John drank alot after his 1st wife died& wasn't allowed by my grandmother to come around her home, his son,or my mom. Laura's parents were; Jasper Eubanks & Anna ACORD John's parents were; ROBERT J. (possibly John) SMITH b.abt1845-1846 TN. Mahela or Mahala D. HAMPTON b. March 25.1851. Robert either left or died before Noah was born. She married Jesse Armstrong in Johnson County onOct.4,1874,divorced him and married him again. On JOHN T.SMITH's death record (not death certificate) it says his father was JOHN SMITH It also states that he was married to someone named Rose? John died June 1946 while living in Altus Arkansas. On census I learned that he had a brother named NOAH SMITH that was born abt.1874. I know nothing else about this family except for their was Native American blood somewhere in the direct line of JOHN THOMAS SMITH. I have one picture of him. I have heard that all of the Smith families tied in together that lived in COAL HILL in that time period. Any suggestions? I keep hitting brick walls and I don't know what to look for except for a link between Robert and another Smith in Johnson County. Thanks for your time and help. Karen

    3. I am doing Franklin Co., AR SMITH research in the 1860s and 1870s, for Samuel M. Smith, who enlisted in the Union Army First AR Cavalry, Co. M, in Franklin Co., AR in 1863. He was born in 1836 in Monongalia Co., western VA and a resident of Mulberry, Franklin Co., AR by 1863. Does he connect to your Smith in Franklin Co.? Thanks.
