    3. Misc Roll # 1 (end of roll) 1877: IN MEMORY: Young R. Royal born October 29, 1812; died June 6th, 1867, aged 54 yrs, 7 months, 17 days. The subject of this sketch was born in Sampson Co., NC where he resided until 1839. In 1838 he professed the Religion of Jesus Christ, and united himself with the Missionary Baptist Church. In 1839 he removed to Yallabusha Co., Miss., and united himself with the Missionary Baptist Church called, Red-Grass, by which church he was, in 1840, licensed to preach. In 1842 he removed to what is now Drew county, ( then Bradley), Ark. In the fall of 1842 he again returned to Yallabusha county, Miss., and was, by Red-Grass Church, duly ordained as a Minister of the Gospel. Soon after his ordination he returned to his adopted home of Arkansas. In 1848 he, together with Rev. U.H. Parker, John Meek and R.P. Pulley, formed the convention which framed the Constitution of the present Bartholomew Baptist Association. On the organization of said association he was elected as its Clerk; which posi! ! tion he held till 1862, when he was chosen moderator, which honorable position he held till his death. His course as Moderator was marked with distinguished ability as a presiding officer, eliciting the entire confidence of his Brethren. At the organization of Drew County, in 1846, he was elected Clerk of the Circuit Court, which office he held for twelve years giving entire satisfaction to his constituents. Being a Pioneer of the Gospel Ministry, he devoted so much of his time and energy and labored with such zeal that in 1862 his health began to fail when he was forced to almost retire from his ministerial duties. His death was caused by disease of the lungs. He has left a large number of friends and relations to mourn his death and his loss has caused a vacuum in the religious world which will be hard to fill. He retained his mental faculties until his last moments. He died in full confidence of the Blessed Master, and expressed his confidence in realizing a blessed ! ! immortality beyond the grave.
