Since they didn't know who the owners were, the person who found them can hold them until an owner is found and makes claim. Btw, the W.N. LAFFOON listed in the first notice is one of my husband's line - William Nash LAFFOON, s/o William Rutherford LAFFOON and Mary Ann RAGLAND, md. first to Mrs. Louella (MCKINSTRY) BERRYMAN, md. second to Mrs. Zula (HOOKER) OWENS.
