    3. We seem to have so many people on the list who do not know much about the CCC program. I will share some of my memories. I can't recall exactly what year the program began but it was disbanded around 1940 when the Army started recruiting and drafting young men for the upcoming World War 2. The CCC stood for >Civilian Conservation Corps< I think the pay was around $21.00 per month of which the enrollee got $5.00. The rest went to his family. The program had some features like the Army. They did many projects on private and public land. Many of the things they constructed are still being used today. Park Building and landscaping for parks. Fire trails into timber land. Ponds for farmers. Terraces for farmers. Fighting forest fires. Farm drainage ditches. As far as I can recall the programs on private lands all related to conservation of farm and timber land. I have visited a number of parks in Arkansas and other states over the years where the facilities were constructed by the CCC. I was never in the program but I have memories of it. Robert
