Advance Feb. 23, 1932: The funeral of J. K. Erwin 74 years of age was held at Oakland cemetery Monday at 12:30, the body being brought to Monticello by the Stephenson Funeral Home. Mr. Erwin died at the family residence at McGehee at 5:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon from pneumonia. We understand that he had been in bad health for some several months. Mr. Erwin is a former Monticellionian, coming here to be associated with J.H. Hinemon in what was known as Hinemon University. Later Mr. Erwin took over this institution of learning which he conducted for several years. He was married to Miss Marie Bell, daughter of the late George Bell, in June, 1897 and to this union were three children who survive. This family moved to McGehee something over thirty years ago when Mr. Erwin engaged in the mercantile business, which business he conducted until recent years his health being such that he retired. Funeral services were held at the First Methodist Church at McGehee at 10:30, conducted by Rev. O. Ll Cole, assisted by Rev. Sizemore, pastor of the Presbyterian Church, and concluded at Oakland Cemetery. He is survived by besides his wife, three children, Mrs. Scott Ward of Little Rock, Mrs. Collie Ham____(?) of Greenville, Miss., and son, Will Bolling Erwin who is a student of the A. & M.
