Drew Advance Feb. 1, 1927: Mrs. Lucy Kimbell Pye, aged 86, mother of E. L. and R. P. Pye, prominent in El Dorado business life for many years, died at 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Myrtis Preston East Block street. Mrs. Pye had been ill for several weeks, her condition gradually growing worse during the last few days. Funeral services will be held late today or Wednesday morning at Beulah, Drew county, near Mrs. Pye's old home. The body will leave here on the Rock Island 7 o'clock train. The services will be in charge of the Rev. C. D. Wood, pastor of the Baptist church at Monticello. Mrs. Pye had lived in El Dorado eight years, having come here from her old home in Drew County. On Mother's Day last year she was ______ the oldest mother in El Dorado among a list of eight whose names were presented to The News in accord with a custom established four years ago. Mrs. Pye was born in Walton county, Georgia, on September 23, 1840, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Kimbell. At 19 she was married to Edward Pye and they moved to Drew county in 1861. They settled a homestead near Lacey, where the family lived until about 30 years ago with the exception of the years of the Civil War, when Mrs. Pye returned to Georgia. After peace was declared she and her husband returned to Arkansas. Mrs. Pye could recall vividly many events of the Civil War, her father's farm in Georgia being in the line of Sherman's march to the sea. Besides the two sons and one daughter here, Mrs. Pye is survived by another son, Will Pye, of Monticello; two other daughters, Mrs. Mattie Stagg, of Warren, and Mrs. E. E. Higgason, of Monticello; 18 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. The above is from the El Dorado Daily News of Tuesday.
