Robert, There are several old newspaper reports of tremors in this area. Remember this area is on the edge of the New Madrid Fault. The April 6, 1911 edition of the "Eagle" in Hamburg also carried a report on this event. Shocks were reported in Little Rock, Pine Bluff, Rison, Warren, Hot Springs, Clarendon, Star city, England, Lake Village, Fordyce, Ladd, and Wilmar. The JUne 22, 1930 edition of the Leader in Hamburg reported tremors in Hamburg, Dermott, Warren, and other places. In June 1939 the Leader carried a report of tremors in Parkdale and Portland. I have seen many other reports of tremors around the state but did not copy them. Oral history is a wonderful source, but so are old newspapers. Best regards, Rebecca >I think the article below is likely an " APRIL FOOL JOKE " as I lived in >Wilmar in the 1930''s and never recall hearing any of the old timers mention >an earthquake. It seems to me any earthquake that shook building like that >would have been talked about for years afterward.
