    3. Monticello, Dec. 8 - Deputy Sheriff John Law of Ashley county arrived here yesterday from Texas, with a prisoner by the name of Drake. He escaped from Hamburg jail three or four years ago, when he was on trial for bigamy. The jury had convicted him, but before sentence had been pronounced he took "French leave" of the town and the officers have not been able to locate him until quite recently, when Sheriff Law went in pursuit and effected his capture. Drake will be retained here for safe-keeping until court convenes. The sheriff says that if Drake had not been apprehended in a few days he would have added another to his list of wives. Mr. Clint Biggs, a farmer living near here, fell from his wagon, which was heavily loaded with brick, and had one of his legs broken in two places by the wheels passing over him. Dr. Loper was called in to set the limb and pronounces the break quite a serious one, as the man is quite old. The dry goods house of G. B. Simms, colored, was closed for debt a few days since. Liabilities about $400. Rev. E. N. Evans, pastor of the Methodist church of this place for the ensuing year, preached on last Sabbath to a large and appreciative audience.
