I picked up the possiblity that it was "Redden" from a message posted by Mallissa (Creacy) Moorehead in 2002. I have not contacted her concernng her source, but as I looked up the message to refer you I see that you have. The probate record of John B. Riner shows that he died without a will, many debts and limited assets. It is very difficult to read and most entries are not dated. Here are a few notes that may interest you. 1. On 15 January, 1850 Nancy Riner, wife of John B. Riner relinquished her right to administer his estate and asked the court to appoint James D. Berry as administrator. At that time she had on hand $868.75 and was allowed to keep 10%. 2. On May 19, 1849 John B. had purchased two lots in Rough and Ready for $15.00. Nancy was allowed to purchase one of these from the estate for $10.00, 3. On Jan. 14, 1851 Richard Knowles presented a claim against the estate for $539.22 based upon an open account. I don't know what this may tell you about his relationship to Nancy. There are 31 pages of court records, but they mostly list claims against the estate. I hope this helps.
