    2. Being new to the list, I am not certain exactly how much info I should be sending. However, I have been at brick walls on some lines for so long, and I am hopeful someone will be able to help me. My connection to Drew County, is through my husband (and it's his lines that are giving me fits!!) Here is what I have: William Baker (and I believe his father was Matthew Baker), b. July 20, 1806 in Wilkinson County, MS and died between 1850-1860 in Chicot Co., AR. His first wife is unknown. He married Sarah Bryant November 17, 1831 in Wilkinson Co., MS. She was born abt. 1800 in South Carolina and died between 1850-1860 in Chicot Co., AR. They had no children. Children of William Baker and unknown first wife: Elisha James Baker, b. July 29, 1831, Mississippi, died January 20, 1912, Monticello, Drew County, AR. Children of Sarah Bryant and unknown Bryant are: Harriet Bryant, b. abt. 1830 Nathan Bryant, b. abt. 1826 They appear on the 1840 Wilkinson Co., MS as follows: William Baker, Gunsmith, aged 45, born in MS Sarah, aged 50, born in South Carolina Elijah, aged 20, laborer, born in MS (Elijah/Elisha) Jacob Welch, 27, born in Alabama Harriet Welch, 17, b. in MS** Sarah L. E. Welch, aged 6 mos, born in Arkansas Nathan Bryant, aged 24, born in MS ** (my info has always been that Harriet was Sarah's daughter by first marriage, but if she is only 17 in 1850, and Sarah and William were married in 1831, she has to be a Baker and William's daughter) By 1860, William, Sarah, and Harriet have all died and Jacob Welch has "left for parts unknown". Harriet and Jacob's daughter, Sarah L. E. Welch is placed in the guardianship of Jessie Bowden. By that time, Elisha has married Caroline Farquhar -- don't know why they didn't take guardianship -- but can't find Elisha in 1860 -- so have no answer to that one! Elisha James Baker married Caroline Farquhar July 12, 1855 in Monticello, Drew Co., AR, daughter of Peter and Martha Berry Farquhar. I believe the marriage records show Caroline's last name as "Forkner". Caroline was born January 11, 1833 in Hinds Co., MS and died January 27, 1912 in Drew Co., AR. Elisha and Carolyn Farquhar Baker had the following children: 1. Samantha A. Baker, b. Feb. 28, 1858, d. Jan. 7, 1896, Paradise, Drew Co., AR; m (1) William H. Nowlin, b. Sept. 19, 1846, d. Jan. 29, 1886; m (2) Jeremiah Funderburk, March 29, 1888, Monticello, Drew Co., AR b. Nov. 10, 1838, South Carolina, d. May 25, 1910 Paradise, Drew Co., AR. 2. Martha Elizabeth Baker, b. Sept. 23, 1859, AR; d. December 12, 1929, AR, married R. Burton Woods, b. Feb. 23, 1857, d. May 13, 1922, AR 3. Peter Franklin Baker, b. Aug. 31, 1861, Lincoln Co., AR; d. Aug. 4, 1926, Pine Bluff, Jefferson Co., AR; m. Sarah Ellen Nowlin Oct. 18, 1878, Paradise, Drew Co., AR, she was b. May 22, 1854, AR; d. Aug. 8, 1932 in Lincoln Co., AR 4. Callie Baker married John Barnett 5. Robert (Bob) Baker -- left home and was never heard from 6. Elisha J. Baker, Jr., married Hulda 7. W. M. Baker 8. Mary M. "Molly" Baker m. Nathan Haynes After the 1850 census, I cannot find Elisha again until 1880 on the Drew Co., Census, and he appears there again on the 1900 census, in Veasey Township. He does appear on the 1863 Drew Co. tax list and although that does not establish residency, it is evidence that he had ties to Drew Co. The next mention of him is in an 1873 newspaper report in which Caroline's brother, Eurenus Farquhar while visiting in the home of Elisha and Caroline, committed some crime(?) and two deputies were dispatched to Elisha's home to arrest Eurenus. Eurenus escaped out the back and in the process, killed one of the deputies and the report goes on that he probably traveled to Texas. Elisha did enlist in Co. L, 6th Arkansas Calvary, at Monticello, AR May 12, 1862. This was a Confederate unit and he later filed Arkansas Pension #3994 in Aug. 1905. I have lots of information about descendants, Farquhar and Funderburk ancestors. But -- since my husband's line comes down from Samantha -- who was William Nowlin? Samantha died in 1896, but two of her children, Minnie J. and Henry Nowlin remained in Jeremiah Funderburk's household on the 1900 census for Drew Co. and apparently, Minnie was still with him in 1910. Samantha's brother, Peter Franklin Baker, married Sarah Ellen Nowlin who was a sister to Samantha's first husband, William H. Nowlin. Does anyone have any info?? I sure would like to be able to put this all to rest.
