Kathy, Yes, I do see that Andrew, Mary and Andrew Baker, Jr. are in the 1880 mortality schedule index: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ardrew/1880mor.html (Scroll to the bottom of the page for 1880). There is also a Jane Baker, age 56, in this mortality schedule. I don't know the relation to your Andrew Baker family. If you can find the original mortality schedule, it should tell you the exact date of death for each of these individuals. Unfortunately, Arkansas did not start keeping official death records until 1914, so this mortality schedule is your best bet. You're actually very lucky that your Bakers died in one of the years for which the mortality schedule was kept, because you have a chance at finding the actual dates and cause of death! It would be interesting to see if your Bakers all died around the same time and of the same cause, which might indicate an illness in the family or an epidemic of some sort. Does anyone know of any epidemics in Drew County in 1879-1880? Also, does anyone know where to find the original mortality schedules, with the dates of death on them? I know there was a Yellow Fever Epedemic in 1878 in the south; I have a relative that died in Grenada, MS. Jo-Ann Stephens Bahai@netusa1.net
