The Arkansas Genealogical Society Board met today in the conference room at the state archives in Little Rock. We discussed the priors project that is underway. Folks, this is going to be one of the best and most helpful resources to people researching Arkansas records. At present we have 40,000 names placed in the data base. We hope to publish the first volume when we have around 80,000 names. More than likely this will be on a CD, but that has yet to be determined. I typed some of the delayed birth certificates, and was amazed at how much family information was found in each one. I believe one has been found for as far back as between the 1830's-1840's. It is a wonderful project and I wish I could devote more time to it. If any of you living within a reasonable distance of Little Rock would like to help with this project, please contact me. We need volunteers. Nancy Barber, another list member, can attest to the importance of these never before published records. I wanted to keep all of you up to date on the latest project of AGS. Hopefully, it will be an on going thing, and each year we will be able to print other volumes as they come available. I saw many, many, from the Bradley and Drew County areas and kept thinking...gee, I wish I could make a copy...but the health department made us sign a confidentialty agreement, and I think that was a good idea.
