Since I posted this article, I would like to say that in all the research I have done I believe this was a very common practice among large farmers. I also believe this is one of the ways they used to gain control and to add to their bank accounts. And I would like to also say that they were probably "good, upstanding, and much admired people." Somehow the truth always surfaces. And oftentimes it is ugly. I know that there were even white people who were treated the same way, but courts tended to go along with the rich. What a pity.
