    3. Ark. Gazette, March 15, 1906, Monticello - Advices here are that Frank Barker, a negro, has been placed under bond to await the action of the Federal Grand Jury on a charge of perjury. Barker recently swore out a warrant against J. F. Thompson of Tillar, a prominent and respected white citizen, on a charge of peonage. The negro and his wife charged that Mr. Thompson kept them forcibly in his employ, compelling them to labor, and that they escaped from their enforced servitude only by slipping away at night. Before the United States commissioner at Pine Bluff, however, the charge against Mr. Thompson was investigated and promptly dismissed.d The arrest of the negro Barker on a perjury charge followed. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
