    3. Drew Advance April 2, 1895 A beautiful balmy day last Wednesday, the 27th of March. Winter had suddenly emerged into spring, and all nature seemed blithe and gay. It was a fitting day indeed for the joining of hearts and hands and the launching out on life's ocean together. So thought we, and so must have thought many others of the large number of people assembled on that evening at the Methodist church in this place to witness the nuptials of Mr. J. D. Welsh and Miss Lily Jackson, two of Monticello's most charming young people. Indeed the number of friends present on that occasion was in itself a fitting tribute to the popularity of these two. The church had been made by loving hands, a bower of beauty, and at six o'clock the notes of the organ floated out on the evening air as Miss Eme Prewitt played the very beautiful wedding march, and the bride and groom, and Mr. Jack Curry and Miss Ladelle Welsh on their left. As the sweet strains of the march died away they were met at the altar by the Re! v. Dr. McLauchlan, and in a beautiful and impressive manner made one. The wedding party with a few invited guests then adjourned to the home of Mrs. B. F. Prewitt, where a delightful feast was in waiting, and to which ample justice was done. Mr. Welsh, our friend and co-worker on the The Advance is a most estimable gentleman, and we sincerely congratulate him on having won such a beautiful and accomplished wife and we wish for them both much happiness and prosperity. 3. Drew Advance July 15, 1913: Tribute of Respect It is with the greatest sorrow we record the death of one of our faithful and willing members of the Home department of the Missionary Society of the Methodist Church of Monticello. Mrs. Annie May Hankins was called to pass through the "dark valley and shadow of death" June 19th 1913. Therefore be it resolved: 1st That we bow in humble submission to the will of Him who "doeth all things well," assured that our loss is her eternal gain. 2nd, That we emulate the virtues of our departed sister. Silently she wrought in the sacred precinct of her own home circles, where she will be so sorely missed by a devoted husband and three little children. The beauty of her devotion, to church, family and friends, will ever be cherished among our sweetest memories. 3rd, That while we deplore her loss, we realize that the heaviest blow has fallen on her bereaved family to whom we extend our heartfelt sympathy. Let your sorrows be only that you will see her face no more on earth. "God's plans like lilies pure and white unfold; We must not tear the close shut leaves apart; Time will reveal the cayxes (sic) of gold. And if through patient toil we reach the land Where tired feet, with sandals loose, may rest, Where we shall clearly know and understand, I think that we will say that God knew best." 4th, That a copy of these resolutions be furnished the family; also to each of the county papers with the request that they be published. 3. Ark. Gazette: July 3, 1906 - Monticello, July 2 - The magnificent new $15,000 Baptist church was dedicated yesterday. The large building was filled to overflowing. After a few remarks by the pastor, Rev. F. P. Turner, a resolution was read by D. T. Hyatt thanking the pastor for his earnest and un-tiring efforts in behalf of this church, which resolution was adopted and ordered spread upon the records of the church. The dedicatory sermon was preached by Rev. Sam Campbell, a former pastor of this church, now residing in Pine Bluff. A call was then made to raise funds to meet the indebtedness on the church, and something over $700 was raised. July 29, 1906 - Monticello, July 28 - Soon after 12 o'clock last night Joe Laude, one of the oldest citizens of Monticello, passed away at his home in this city. Mr. Laude was about 75 years of age. He was a Frenchman by birth, but had been a resident of Monticello for 50 years or more, nearly all of which time he was in business here. He was engaged in the furniture business here before the civil war. His death was due to heart failure, his last illness lasting only about 15 minutes. He is survived only by his widow. The body will be taken to Pine Bluff today for interment in the Catholic cemetery. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get personalized email addresses from Yahoo! 3. In 1887 Charles Franklin Loomis lost his wife Jeanette Fisher Loomis. In his grief he left Kansas and went back to Arkansas (county unknown) and settled there. The family story goes that while there he became involved in Tabacco business run by a family by the name of Pryor. Would like to connect with anyone who either 1) knows of Charles Franklin Loomis or 2) knows of a Tabacco Business in Arkansas owned or run by a family by the name of Pryor in the 1888's. I will check if I get to make it to the museum today. We have got rain, rain and more rain here. Roads are getting under water so I may not be able to make it. If not I will check on them Sunday. 3. Hi Everyone, I remember reading a while back that there is some information on 19th century Drew County doctors at the Drew County Museum. I had previously inquired about Dr. S.G. Twitty, but he apparently wasn't mentioned. I have another doctor to ask about. He was the doctor who attended my great great grandfather when he died in 1880. The doctor's name was A.B. Tardy. Is it possible to find out if there is any information on this Dr. Tardy or any medical journals or records that might be available? Thanks much for any information you can provide. 3. Peggy, Medical records will be hard to find for the early years. The only hope would be if they were passed down through the family of the physician who attended this lady. I was surprised to find a lot of the original physician documents that were donated to the archives at UAMS, but it is doubtful you will find anything unless they were donated. Odd thing, and one that most people are unaware of...in the old medical records much genealogy is found. I am currently transcribing the records of my boss's grandfather who was a physician on the old Scott Plantation at Scott, Arkansas in the late 1800's. Some of the records date back to the patient's grandparents. Many of these records list the parents, grandparents and places of birth. A wealth of information. If you find anything, please let me know. Jann On Tue, 13 Feb 2001 10:13:09 Peggy Calk wrote: >Does anyone know where I might get medical records for the Wilmar area around 1914.
