    1. [ARDREW-L] Re: Hawks and Paschalls - Larry White
    2. John Haisty
    3. Larry, Thanks so much for your reply. The Paschalls that are connected to my family came from Warren County, North Carolina, along with Hawks, Hicks, Bartletts, Aycocks, probably some Browns, Carrolls, Kings, etc. I have a lot of Hawks and Hicks genealogy and some Bartlett. Paschalls weave in and out of these lines from Warren County. I will look to see if any of these names connect and will also ask another researcher of these lines. She has much more knowledge of these folks. These lines settled in the Selma/Florence area and some were members of the Florence Presbyterian Church and can be found in the minutes of the church that Karen Groce has so graciously put on line. By the way, while looking for Carroll marriages in NC, I found the marriages of two Huskys, Rebecca! John CARROLL married Rebecca HUSKY Sept. 17, 1781 in Granville Co. NC and Spencer CARROLL married Sarah HUSKY April 28, 1785 in Granville Co. NC. No "e" in the name, though. Thanks again, Larry and I will get back to you. Carolyn jhaisty@tcac.com

The book advised the researcher to first write to the Grand Masonic Lodge (in Arkansas, this is in Little Rock) to inquire about which local lodge your ancestor might have belonged to. Anyway, the booklet mentioned the O.E.S. (Order of the Eastern Star) but didn't mention if the Grand Lodges of each state would have records of the local O.E.S. lodges. Does anyone know this? Alternately, does anyone know if Drew County O.E.S. records exist locally? Thanks, Melissa P.S. If anyone wants to know how to order this little Masonic records research booklet, let me know & I will post.

    1. [ARDREW-L] HAWKS and PASCHALLS
    2. Larry P. White
    3. Carolyn, I have some Paschal/Paschall names in my line, but haven't worked on them yet. I have a John Paschal who married Mary Pace in 1824, in Georgia. In a will written in 1845 and recorded in 1872, he mentions his sons William W. Paschal; Homer Virgil Paschal; and Richard Henry Clay Paschal. Also mentions his daughters Sarah Amanda Paschal; Virginia Frances Paschal; and Mary Augusta Paschal. Also mentioned is Joseph McRobert Baker, husband of his daughter, Amy Elizabeth Paschal. I don't have a direct Paschal connection from that time up until 1912, when Morris D. Paschall (sp?) married Vera White (my aunt). I don't have ancestors of Morris D. Paschall, as I haven't worked on this line yet (there may not be any connection to the earlier Paschals). Any of these names ring a bell? Larry

    3. Remember the old letter Gretchen Pike was talking about months ago? She sent a copy of it for me to do something with, but I have forgotten what. I do remember saying that the Barber from Wilmar may be Barker. But a Mrs. Jim Barber* lived in the Valley so that is probably her. Transcript with notes: my notes in [] "This information furnished by Mrs. J M Barber, Wilmar, AR. [Wilmar of course being the address for Valley folks] George Canadian Duboise* served throughout the Civil War. He enlisted in Warren or Monticello, Ark. He was in Company B, First Ark Cavalry. His captain - Dr. St. Hudspearth [This being Dr. Street Hudspeth]* First Lieut - Stephens* Second Lieut - J. O. Dunlap* Third Lieut - W. P. Bond* They were sworn in at Little Rock. The year isn't mentioned but must have been about '61. This George Duboise, was your great grand father's brother. He married Catherine Gairey of MIss in about 52 or 53. The party writing this letter doesn't know when he died or where he went from Drew Co Ark. Your great grand fathers name was James Jacob Duboise. .......This Mrs. Barber says the 2nd Lieut W. P. Bond was her grandfather and he mentions getting this information from her father. She mentions also that Dr. Hudspeath [sic, Hudspeth] lived and died about 5 miles west of Wilmar, Ark on Saline River. [This is no doubt referring to Hudspeth on the Saline River about 3 miles upriver from Ozment Bluff. The Hudspeth family lived there before the Civil War.] ......I think she [Minnie] said Uncle George was the only one of the brothers who was capacitated to go - Grandpa and another brother were too old, another brother was a cripple. She said that he was never wounded during the war." ....... *BARBER: [p 270-71, Old Times] Easter Rawls m 1st William McCarty.
