    3. Beth: What are you doing up at this time of morning?! :-) In response to this gedcom idea: ARE YOU GUYS NUTS??? It would almost have to be three dimensional to get the "Big Picture"... You know what they say, "Oh what tangled webs we weave, when first we practice to conceive..." :-) And we all know just how many offspring our ancestors conceived.... Maybe a better approach would be a coded system of numbers that would "overlap". Something akin to the game of Twister, I think... :-) Jo-Ann

    3. I found this old newspaper clipping in my mother's things after she died. Unsure if Jefferson Twnshp is in Drew or Desha counties but thought I would post it anyway. By the way, his name was Daniel Granderson Lee (so why D.J. for initials? a nickname?) Jo-Ann ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------ "D. J. Lee Winchester, Dec. 3 -- (Special) -- D. J. Lee 78, for many years a resident of Jefferson township, died at his home four miles east of here at 7 o'clock Sunday night, November 23. Mr. Lee was a native of Mississippi but he had resided in Arkansas since his boyhood, making his first home in this state in the Selma neighborhood. He was married to Miss Jennie Edwards about 60 years ago and they settled on the farm where he resided until his death. Following the death of his first wife, Mr. Lee was married to Mrs. Benjamin Long who died there three years ago. Two years ago Mr. Lee married Mr. Lee married Mrs. Elizabeth Wright who died in February, this year. Mr. Lee throughout his life was active in church work and community activities. He was for many years a leader in the Mt. Moriah Baptist church near here. The death of Mr. Lee marks the passing of one of the few remaining pioneer settlers of this territory. He is survived by two sons, Overton Lee, with whom he was residing at the time of his death and Varnell Lee of McGehee; one daughter, Mrs. W. H. Conrad of Jefferson; a stepson, Chester Long of Pine Bluff; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Conrad of Moscow; two sisters, Mrs. N. Leek of Star City and Mrs. Laura Roberson of Dumas. Funeral services were held at Scott cemetery near here Monday afternoon, November 24. Rev. J. L. Leonard, pastor of the Tillar Methodist church, conducted the services. (handwritten in margin: died this day 23 - 1930)

    2. Terri Lee Wolfe
    3. By the way, there is a genealogy site called ARDREW-L@rootsweb.com Even if you are not interested in genealogy, you might send a message out that tells who you are and who your family was. There are several people , who were DCHS graduates, on it. For example, one of the regulars is Carolyn Haisty Haisty, who married Stanley Haisty from Monticello, I think she's around Aunt Sweet Pea's age. Her mother used to be a principal at DCHS. Also, Rebecca Dearmond Huskey is a regular, but I think she may be a bit younger than you. Her sister was Olivia Dearmond, who married Hershel Gober. By chance, there might be someone on it with whom you graduated. What I will do is just mail this to the site, and it will show your email address, and if anyone is on it who knows Jimmy Jones and John Downey Jones from Lacey.....yourself who graduated in l950, perhaps they will respond. Besides, I do know that there are some people on the site who are researching Jones....might not be your branch, but there are some Possum Valley Jones researchers. Also, I called Uncle Billy....told him to get updated so that he could converse w/some old friends.HA. Good luck to you, BETH PS ARDREW....I received a note from Jimmy Jones/DCHS grad of l950/lives in Houston, TX/originally from Lacey/If you know him, he'd appreciate getting in contact.

    3. Jann - I saw in an e-mail that you have access to old will records? Can you see if you have anything on the HATLEY name. It might have been spelled HATTLEY back then too. Who has access to census records that might could help? My grandparents were Grover Thomas Hatley and Minnie Lee (Phillips) Hatley. They are buried in the Oakland Cemetery. Where can I get information on them and their parents and where they came from, etc? Thanks, Barbara (Hatley) Tidwell

    3. I can add one to our grammar discussion. Here's one for ya. I can remember my daddy saying "rurn't" instead of "ruined." When I was a little girl, we moved to Texas and I said that word in front of my friends. They didn't have a clue as to what I was saying. One of them finally figured it out and corrected me. In first grade, I didn't know it wasn't a real word!!!!

    3. Ardrew was represented by Bobbie Loveless Lehman and her husband, Larry Jones and wife, and yrs truly. Bobbie had to introduce herself to me. Have not seen each other since 1957! Melissa, it was nice to meet your parents. Many old school mates were there: Harland, Johnny, and Gordon Brown, Raymond Lansdale, Bruce Forrest, Mary Frances Long Grubbs, Douglas Grubbs, Lanelle Sanderlin, Royce Ellis, others. Bobbie and I talked at length. We had a good time. The handmade quilt exhibit was simply beautiful. The old church was full of them. Thelma Ellis won best of show. B B Knowles, grandson of Margie & Pharris Knowles won Miss Possum Valley. She was crowned by last years queen, Rusty Glennon. The new queen's long platinum hair hung to her waist. She was attired in a beautiful green satin gown. Her makeup was to perfection. I myself was pulling for one Jacks from Whitehall. Her beard was immaculately trimmed. Luther Hayes and his daughter Denver were there. Luther turned 86 today. This was the highlight of my day for personal reasons. This family lived on our farm at Ozment Bluff in the 40s left @ 1949. Luther got to telling tales about experiences with my father. Laughing the whole time. I was beaming with joy. Luther taught me how to whistle when I was six. He told me some things I did not know about this place. This was the 14th Annual Possum Valley Days. The people of the community put it on to raise funds to keep the church in good repair and they built their very nice pavillion with these funds as well. This is the Methodist Church that Alfred Ozment gave land for. The food was good; the music was good; the company was good. Rebecca

    3. Ed and George Spencer, brothers, were either cousins or nephews of the Lucy F. Daniel Jackson, wife of James Andrew Jackson. I've been looking at Old Times and cannot seem to make the connection by using Mr. Charles Jackson's biography, nor Mrs. Bankston's. However, I know that Charles' grandmother Lucy was a Daniel, a sister to Ellen Daniel Welch, the ancestor of John Spivey. This is probably why they were connected in business, as well as the Everetts, who were also Daniel relatives. Beth Thurman or Terri Wolfe Monticello, AR 367-2701
