Amy - I don't think I received the message from Martha. For some reason, for a couple of days my ARDREW and ARBRADLE lists were not getting through to me. I had to re-subscribe. Would it be possible to forward that message to me by e-mail again? I would really appreciate it. I'm determined to learn how to do this. I need all the help I can get. Helen

I guess I'll just have to do more studying. I think I've been afraid to tackle it, but maybe I'll get my determination up - I do need to learn how to do this. Thanks. Helen
Helen C. Leigh (musicgal@uswest.net) wrote: >Rdea: This sounds better to me. Is there any real need to go through >the difficulties(?) of trying to do a gedcom - with new software, etc.? It depends on what you would like to do with the data and the limitations of the software you are using. Most, if not all, genealogy programs will import and export GEDCOMs. And you can get them all to export various reports, descendancy charts, etc. But *importing* those is a different matter--I don't know that any genealogy programs will handle this function (I'd love it if I'm wrong on this point!!). So if you are just giving information to a friend or cousin about your line, e-mailing family group sheets or descendancy charts is a great way to do it. But if you're trying to integrate your databases with one another, then exchanging GEDCOM files is the easiest way to do that. As Rebecca mentioned earlier today, it involves much less typing when you can just import someone's data in GEDCOM format. Recently I had a Loveless researcher send me his family data as a descendancy chart in Microsoft Word. I couldn't just import the data in that format into my database--I had to enter it all by hand, though since it was already in electronic format, I was able to do lots of copying and pasting. --Melissa

My Harvey family is that of Jesse Sherwood Harvey, no relation to the family of John Henry Harvey. Carolyn
Yes, Wm., you know we all want more. Anyone as full as you are w/such interesting BULL.......is like a container full of Pandora's best trunk, yet one we can't wait to open. Of course, we want to hear.BETH
Another thing one might want to note on this Lee family is that the wife of John Henry Harvey was Mrs. Ora Lee a sister to Haston LEE. These are some of the same Harveys that Caroline has mentioned at Selma and whose origins were down around Midway, descendants of Chris Harvey. Mrs. Ora is still living and has a sharp mind...believe she lives with Jo Ann Johnson or Ora Mae Wood .BETh
Beth! What is the connection between Overton and Ora? I would very much like to contact this Mrs. Ora. Do you know who I should call? I can look up a number if I have who and where. Thank you very much for this - it may be the missing piece of information that I've been looking for! :-) Jo-Ann ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------ >Another thing one might want to note on this Lee family is that the wife of >John Henry Harvey was Mrs. Ora Lee a sister to Haston LEE. Beth: Not that I know of...yet. I do tend to run into this particular Lee line fairly often, though. Who knows? For anyone using FTM 5.0 and aol - the instructions that Martha (martha@netwurx.net) gave on sending a gedcom worked just great for me. Davie says he got the file just fine. {Thank you MARTHA}. Also, I must apologize for the ARDREW message that contains my Clower gedcom. When I emailed it earlier, I thought I was posting it only to Davie. My sincere apologies. amy
