    3. Eleanor, WOW! These two charts alone are a gold mine. I hadn't realized how much the Ozments mingled in with various Possum Valley families. Everybody in the Valley must be related to either an Ozment or a Knowles...or both! >... 3 Elizabeth A. Ozment >....... +Robert Elisha Kendall This was in "Old Times", I think, but I had forgotten about it. Believe this Elisha Kendall was the son of Russell Kendall and Sarah Jane White (who later m. William Knowles). If anyone is researching Kendalls, let me know. I have seen a MS census record with an Elisha Kendall who (based solely on location, name and approximate age) I think may be Russ Kendall's father. No proof. ------------- (Alfred Ozment line) >... *3rd Wife of [2] Andrew Anderson Ozment: >....... +Martha Ann Knowles Do you know, by chance, if this Martha Ann Knowles was born ~1853/4? If so, this could be the daughter of the younger Richard Knowles. I have never been able to find any of this family (except a daughter, Mary E., b. ~1845) past the 1860 census. Would love to find out more. >... 3 [3] William M. Ozment b: Abt. 1856 in Veasey, Drew County, Arkansas >....... +Mary Ann Loveless >... *2nd Wife of [3] William M. Ozment: >....... +Lucy Jane Stewart m: 14 November 1878 Aha, so William Ozment and Mary Ann Loveless *did* get divorced. Wonder why I couldn't find a divorce record in the Drew County courthouse? Mary Ann lived past 1900, as she is found in the 1900 census living with her daughter, Mary E. Ozment & her son-in-law, John C. McGough. I don't know exactly when Mary Ann Loveless Ozment or William M. Ozment died. This is great! Eleanor, you are a big help. Thanks again! Now I see how much more I need to learn about these Ozments. I didn't even touch the Elizabeth Ozment who married John Hickman. <g> --Melissa

I will post them later tonight after I get home from work. There was one entry that intrigued me---a J.C. Tribble who was born in 1861 and died in 1886. This looked about the right age to be the John Tribble who married Mary Ozment Knowles. This J.C. Tribble is buried in Ozment Valley Cemetery. Does anyone know if this is the same John Tribble who married Mary Knowles? If so, did he die a natural death, or did he run into some trouble around town? (Never can tell!) I haven't started on the family but got about 4-6 hits on "Tribble" for Drew Co. on the Bureau of Land Management web site. If Mary & Jeremiah were divorced August 18, 1881, and she married John Tribble a little over a month later, then perhaps we can guess what the divorce was all about. That seems pretty unusual, doesn't it? Maybe I am just being a prude!! (Karen Hayes, could this be the "Mary Knowles" who married a Tribble that you found in the Drew Co. marriage records once upon a time? When you sent that to me, I thought Mary Knowles was the daughter of William Knowles' brother (??), the younger Richard Knowles. Confusing!) As for Mary's true middle name, I'm stumped. The divorce record does say "Mary A." I can't lay my hands on their marriage record at the moment. However, in my database I have a note that says in the 1880 Drew County census, Mary is listed as "Mollie E. Knowles", so you are onto something with the "Mary Ellen". I'll post questions about William Ozment later (perhaps tomorrow). First I need to find some of Rebecca's earlier Ozment posts to see if I can figure out how this Mary Ozment and the William Ozment who married Mary Ann Loveless were related. Any additional info. appreciated! Did Mary Ozment Knowles marry again? ---------------------------- August 18th, 1881 J.R. Knowles, Plaintiff vs. Mary A. Knowles, Defendant Comes the plaintiff by his attorney and this cause coming on to be heard upon the plaintiffs [sic] complaint and testimony of witnesses, And it appearing that the defendant has been duly summoned herein but failing to answer or otherwise plead herein, the complaint is taken for confessed, And the allegations of the complaint being proven to the satisfaction of the court, and the prayer thereof being for divorce, the same is by the court granted. It is therefore considered, adjudged and decreed by the court, that the bonds of matrimony heretofore existing between the plaintiff and defendant be and the same are hereby dissolved, set aside and held for nought; that the plaintiff be restored to all the rights and privileges of an unmarried person and that he recover all of his costs in this cause, expended. 1. [ARDREW-L] obit--Edna Brown Jones
    2. Melissa Jones
    3. Hello, everyone! I am slowly getting back into things after 10 days in Arkansas. We got to do some research while in Monticello and Warren, and one of the most exciting 'finds' was this obituary for my great-grandmother, Edna Brown Jones (daughter of John F.M. Brown and Mary Ann Marsh). This obit must have been in the Eagle Democrat, though the paper's name does not appear on this clipping; on the reverse side of the obit was news about folks in Sumpter. No date on the clipping, but Edna's tombstone says she died January 18, 1947. - ---------------------------- Mrs. Edna Brown Jones Dies in Wilmar Mrs. Edna Brown Jones, 64, died Saturday at her home, Wilmar, Route 1. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Bernice Devine, Mrs. Ruth Reap, Mrs. Blanche E. Harville; five sons, E.J. [sic--should be 'F.J.' for "Francis John"] Jones, Otis Jones, Jesse Jones, Earl Jones, and Ray Jones; three sisters, Mrs. Charlie Hargis, Mrs. W.T. Diffie, Mrs. Lillie Hughes; three brothers, Henry Brown, John Brown, Arch Brown. Services were held Sunday afternoon at 3 from the Valley Methodist church, with the Reverend Mr. Riggins officiating. Burial was made in Valley cemetery. Pall bearers were Virgil White, Dell Knowles, Benjamin Loveless, Herman White, Ervin Glennon ["Glennon" scratched out, 'White' written in pen beneath], James Glennon, Clemon Cox. - ---------------------------- Blanche Harville (wife of Sam Harville) was actually Edna Jones's stepdaughter. Blanche was the daughter of Edna's late husband, Charley Jones (d. 1925) and his first wife (name unknown). The big mystery in all this is, who in the world is Mrs. Ruth Reap? My dad and aunt Susie Chadwick have no knowledge of her. While we were in Monticello, my aunt Bobbie showed us a photo album kept by my grandmother. The album contained a photograph labelled "Ruth Jones". Could this be the same Ruth Reap mentioned in the obit? Needless to say, we would be very excited if anyone could help us out with this mystery! If anyone is interested in a photocopy of this obit, let me know and I will send it to you. Good to be back! --Melissa
