    1. [ARDREW-L] Is everyone OK??
    2. Melissa Jones
    3. Hello, everyone, Yes, this is going to be an off-topic post/thread, so those of you who aren't living in Arkansas at the moment, please be patient and delete if you are not interested. Jann let me know last night that the tornadoes across the state were horrible. I just got off the phone with my mom after making sure my family (in De Queen and Arkadelphia) were OK. Since we on the list are all family, I want to know if everyone here is all right as well!! Please let us know if your area of the state was damaged. And this is genealogy-related, if you think about it. Think about the 1949 tornado in Warren that Jann has posted about. Yesterday's event (30+ tornadoes in one night?!) will be one for the history books, and our grandkids and great-grandkids will wonder what we were doing/thinking when the storms hit. So, with an eye to the future, what will you tell them when they ask? Hoping everyone is safe, Melissa

Jann --------- Forwarded Message --------- DATE: Thu, 21 Jan 1999 10:44:33 From: CHRISHAYNE@aol.com To: jann.woodard@eudoramail.com Hi Jann, Several months ago you posted some material on the HAYNES family of Drew Co. AR on the Drew County Mailing List. I found them by searching the archived mailing list. I have not subscribed because I have too many active mailing lists which produce too much e-mail, and sometimes just chit-chat, arguments, etc., making it necessary for me to do alot of deleting. Anyway maybe you could "post" this for me. As you can see I still have a lot of missing information. There were several HAYNES families in the Drew/Lincoln Counties area because ELI KING HAYNES was just one branch of a large family. Thank you. 1. [ARDREW-L] the name "Sook" revisited
    2. Melissa Jones
    3. Hello, all, Whew, the Southern-Trails-L list has been fast and furious the last 2 days. Somebody started a thread on Southern names and nicknames, and it's been really fun to see the lists of interesting names people have in their families. I thought I would take the opportunity to inquire about the nickname "Sook" that some of you have in your lines. So far, the only response I have gotten is from a woman who says that in her family, "Sooky" was a nickname for Susan. Hope this helps! I will let you know if there are more responses to my query. --Melissa

RODGERS and TRIBBLE were two recent Drew Co. Roll Call names that appear in the roster of the 24th Infantry. There are probably others as well; these jumped out at me. Be sure to take a look at the site if you have Civil War interests. I saw a John F. Steadman but don't know how, if at all, he might connect to the Bradley Co. Steadmans who came from Chester County, SC. Also, Levi B(arkley) White, listed with widow as "Sarah J. White"...don't know who this Sarah J. is off-hand, but maybe one of the White/Knowles researchers can help? Goodnight, all! --Melissa

    3. My, I didn't realize we had so many Terral/Terrell researchers on the list! I'm afraid I'm not the cousin with Terrell connections. If you are interested in this surname, please visit this web page: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/8415/ You will have to scroll a bit for the Terrell info...then a bit further down is a link to a 7-generation chart of Terrell descendants. You might wish to e-mail the author (address at the top of the 7-generation page) to trade more info. Hope this helps! Happy hunting. Wish I could find cousins like this for each of you. --Melissa

    1. [ARDREW-L] BORDEAUX: Former North Carolina Slaves
    2. Judith D. SMith
    3. I haved traced my family to Burgaw, North Carolina. I found former slaves Benjamin and Martha Henry Bordeaux. They were born in approximately 1818 and 1834 respectively. My desire is to try and find what plantation they resided on and to get copies of the plantation record in order to try and find out the name of their parents and perhaps go beyond that. I visited Wilmington, NC, the Lattimer House, last summer. I was able to piece together some bits of information. After the War, they both comleted a certification of co-habitation stating that they had been together as husband and wife since 1853. As I was researching on the internet, I found out that some of the BORDEAUXS had moved to Drew County and were said to be former slave owners in North Carolina. During my research of the index for the 1870 census for Burgaw, New Hanover County, North Carolina:Lincoln Township, I found several BORDEAUXS both black and white. An interesting point was that Benjamin and Martha 's children had the same name as some of the white BORDEAUXS, for example:Margaret A., Martha, and Caroline. Perhaps they did this to honor their slave owners. Any new leads would be appreciated. I do have a better paper trail for Benjamin and Marth's descendants.

    3. Just found out that my father's (Garland Evins Hogue) brother (Olcey L. Hogue) married a Bess Clower. They eventually moved to Nashville, Tennessee. Does anyone have any information about Bess or lineage? Bess was living in Star City at the time of their marriage. Also, I had an uncle named Floyd Trantham, who was a barber in Lake Village and later in Little Rock. I also seem to remember he had a brother I knew only as Shorty. Ring any bells out there? I want to take this opportunity of telling all the contributors thank you for all of the Hogue and Myhand information I have received. It has been a rather overwhelming experience. I have learned more from the Ardrew list (not to mention some special individuals - you know who you are) in the last couple of months than in the past 50+ years. Oh dear, I think I just dated myself. Thanks to you all! Becky Bannon j_bbannon@yahoo.com _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!?
