Surnames: Willis, Chambers Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/FV.2ADI/550 Message Board Post: about a year or so ago, someone posted a link either on this board, the list, or somewhere else of an old map of Drew county. it showed an arm that stuck way up above the county between Jefferson and Bradley and presumably covered the Glendale area but since the town was not shown I can't say for certain. I can't find that link again and was wondering if anyone had a copy or knows where to find a map from around that time period. I believe my ancestors to be in that "arm". The on-line Ark land records shows today's counties that their land would be in and has my ancestors in Lincoln which didn't exist in 1860. I know they were in Drew in 1859 as James Chambers wrote a letter back to relatives in GA saying he was in Drew but only a short distance from Bradley and Jefferson. He mentions my ancestor James Willis and seems to indicate he is nearby (but does not actually state such). James Chambers's land deeds also show him in Drew but no "township" is mentioned on the deeds. We know they settled around Glendale which is why I think that arm of Drew included the Glendale area (if the town even existed back then - I don't know- but it wasn't mentioned in the letter). I cannot find either the James Chambers nor the James Willis family in Drew, Jefferson, or Bradley in the 1860 census. Any ideas?

    3. Ginger, the courthouse would be a good place to look for those old records. Most of the records are extant for that time period. The Drew Co. Archives is also a good place to look for family records. They have family files, subject files, some old photos. They're open Friday 1-5, Sat-Sun 2-5. 1. Veasey Township
    2. Rebecca Husky
    3. The township is in the southeast part of the county. Only Crook twsp is between it and the Saline River to the west. Veasey once went all the way to the river. Marion twsp is to the north and Bearhouse twsp to the east. It is named after Abner Veasey who settled there in the early 1840s. There are no towns in it; two large communities - Lacey and Ladelle. It's mostly timberland. Rebecca DeArmond
