    1. Re: [ARDREW] Old Gilliam Cemetery, Drew County, Arkansas
    2. Mary Burton
    3. Hello: According to the Drew County Cemetery book, there are no TABORS buried in any of the known cemeteries. Per the Harvill name: I found an infant B/D Jan. 13, 1917, the daughter of S. E. & B. Harvill buried in the Friendship Cemetery in New Hope behind the Friendship Baptist Church. The cemetery was established about 1865. Directions are available. No other Harvill's are listed in our book, You will find the spelling "Harville". Regarding the Gilliam Cemetery: I found it in the book, also. Quoting from the book: "The old Gilliam Cemetery, Bearhouse Township, and sometimes referred to as the COTHAM Cemetery, was once in the center of a thriving community. The nearby school house was called the Cotham School and church services were held there, also. There are many unmarked graves in this cemetery. A deed dated October 18, 1974, set aside the land to be known as the Old Gilliam Cemetery; Deed Book 186, page 662." (ref.: Ellis Gilliam, 1982) No TABOR or HARVILL listed in this cemetery. Hope this is helpful. Regards, Kathryne Crook Burton Monticello, AR "gc-gateway@rootsweb.com" <gc-gateway@rootsweb.com> wrote: This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. 3. The Prairie Hall Church was located on Midway Route Road {Praire Rd} about 8 miles south of Monticello. It sat in a large oak grove about 200 ft. from the road on the west side of the road. In 1933 lighting struck the building and done major damage to it. Sevices were never held there again. Services were held in the school for a few years before the church was disbanded. In 1938 Marion Higgins purchased what remained of the building and tore it down. My Great Aunt Nancy Higgins was church sectecary and kept the records when the church disbanded. I have in my possesssion 2 large timbers from this church that are 24 ft long. Maybe this will help clear up some things about the church. I can remember going to it at least once to a singing. 2. Can anyone tell me about Prairie Hall Methodist Church? Does it still exist? It seems like it was near Lacey. Does anyone know exactly where it was/is? I found a church register for Prairie Hall (1883-1933) that has been posted online. One of the entries has me puzzled. It is a baptism for "Orella Loveless" on July 26, 1888. The only person I can think of that this might be is John Wesley Loveless's youngest known daughter, who was listed as Francis O. Loveless in the 1880 census. She was born ca 1875, so would have been around 13 years old at the time of the baptism, if this is her. I don't see the Loveless name elswhere in the register, so don't know if they were members here. I would have expected them to attend church in Possum Valley where they lived. Any additional information would be appreciated, on either Prairie Hall or on Orella Loveless. I had always assumed she died young, since I only found her in 1880. But it seems she at least lived to be a teenager. Now what happened to her after 1888? By the time he filed his claim it had been established that the assets of the estate were well short of the amount needed to satisfy the debt. Nancy had already gotten all she ever would. Thank you for the clues from John Riner's probate record. Definitely, the link to Richard Knowles is worth pursuing. Is there anything in the probate record which indicates where to look for additional information on the claims against John's estate (references to court claim books, etc)? In any case, it's definitely helpful to know that there was a relationship of some kind between Richard Knowles and the Riners. There may be some records in the Drew County courthouse showing transactions between the two families. If Nancy was Richard's daughter, it is interesting to think that he would file a claim against the estate instead of forgiving the debt. More research is surely needed to prove or disprove the connection. Are you a descendant of John & Nancy? --Melissa Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I picked up the possiblity that it was "Redden" from a message posted by Mallissa (Creacy) Moorehead in 2002. I have not contacted her concernng her source, but as I looked up the message to refer you I see that you have. The probate record of John B. Riner shows that he died without a will, many debts and limited assets. It is very difficult to read and most entries are not dated. Here are a few notes that may interest you. 1. On 15 January, 1850 Nancy Riner, wife of John B. Riner relinquished her right to administer his estate and asked the court to appoint James D. Berry as administrator. At that time she had on hand $868.75 and was allowed to keep 10%. 2. On May 19, 1849 John B. had purchased two lots in Rough and Ready for $15.00. Nancy was allowed to purchase one of these from the estate for $10.00, 3. On Jan. 14, 1851 Richard Knowles presented a claim against the estate for $539.22 based upon an open account. I don't know what this may tell you about his relationship to Nancy. There are 31 pages of court records, but they mostly list claims against the estate. I hope this helps. Riner's life events. I should get a copy of the Riner probate record from Drew County. If you have a copy, could you tell me if there is any mention of Knowles in the record? You mentioned that Nancy's maiden name was possibly Redden. Could you let me know where you got this information? I am interested in exploring the possibility that Nancy Riner was a Knowles, the daughter of Richard Knowles, who also owned land in Township 24N, Range 5E in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama. I should map the land parcels for Richard, his sons, and his sons-in-law to see how close they are to John Riner's plot of land. Richard Knowles and son William were in Winston County, Mississippi in 1840. Winston is right next to Choctaw County. Then, by 1850, Richard and William were in Drew County, Arkansas, as were the Riners. I haven't yet been able to find a marriage record for John Riner and Nancy. It seems like it should be in Tuscaloosa, if my theory about Nancy being a Knowles is correct. I'm getting ahead of myself, though. First things first. Could you help me find out the source for Nancy's maiden name as "Redden"?
