Hey Bill, are you and I the ONLY ARDESHA subscribers??? I know it is a hectic time of year, but if ANYONE else is on the list, please jot down a line or two and throw in a couple of ancestral names so we can get this list hopping and fun! Amy and List: Here is a small note to ask how ya'll are doing. Christmas is upon us and the Man in Red is readying himself for his great journey. My grandchildren can't wait. I don't seem to have that problem, not being able to wait that is, as much as I did those many years ago there in Watson. Tim: I am not the List Administrator as mentioned below. At one time I applied for Desha County but never heard a thing from it. At about the time I asked, the Desha List was opened. I assumed that someone had asked for it. I think the same person with the ARCHICOT List is one in the same as they seemed to have been created at the same time. Hi, folks -- We are trying to locate the ARDESHA list manager. Mail to the administrator's e-mail address, billcovey, has been bouncing for several weeks and we've been unable to determine whether they are still around using a different e-mail address or have dropped off the face of the earth. If you are the ARDESHA list administrator, please go to your list utility page and update the list admin's address with your current address. If you've forgotten where the utility page is, you can get to it at this URL: http://lists.rootsweb.com/findutil.pl?ARDESHA If you're not the list manager but know who is, you may want to forward this note to them. :-) If the list administrator's address hasn't been changed by Monday, December 6 (that's a week from today), then we'll assume that the list has been abandoned and will put it up for adoption. Thanks, and sorry to intrude -- -- Regards, Tim Pierce RootsWeb.com lead system admonsterator and Chief Hacking Officer
Hello List, Thanksgiving came early for me; on Wednesday, a man wrote to say that his mother went to school with my mother! :-) How wonderful! I have wanted to know more about her life as a child for years and there are few left in the family who can answer my questions (the others choose not to or ???). Seems that Cloa Jean Treat (now Benton) went to school with Hazel Conrad in the late 1930s, somewhere near Tillar. The D.G. Lee family lived near there, too. Cloa's son, James, is going to send me more information after he talks with his mother. He also sent some Newton and Osborn (Osburn?) obituary information. The Bentons lived on the Teeter farm in the 1950s and 60s; my family lived near the Bickham brothers in the 1930s and 40s. I think if we share some family memories, especially with names, we might trigger some connections around here. :-) Happy Thanksgiving...all year long! Jo-Ann Stephens

Is there anyone out there in Desha Co. that will do look-ups? I will pay someone to do research there. I've written to the Desha Co. Genealogical Society for help months ago- No response. I've also written to this list several times. My gggrandfather Jno Foley, wife Jane and sons James and John were in Desha Co. on the 1880 census. I have no proof, but I believe Jno died between 1880-1882. On the 1880 census it said he was a Saloon/Barber as occupation. After Jno died, Jane married John Doyle and they moved to Cape Giradeau, Missouri. I'm not sure if Jane married in AR or MO. Any help would be great!! Thanks, Laura
I do not research this line but I have information on a Louis Dumond and Felicite Gaillot, m. 1810. They had 9 children b. between 1810 and 1832. Louis d. in Arkansas Co. and Felicite d. in Desha Co. If anyone wants more information, just e-mail me. Jo-Ann Stephens Bahai@netusa1.net
I'm searching for information on ALEX REEVES, listed on the 1870 census index living in MISSISSIPPI TWP., DESHA CO. Does anyone know anything at all about him? Does anyone have the actual census? Thanks, Brenda S.

Hi folks: Who out there can remember Mr Bailey who held the Watson Public Schools Superintendent position immediately before Felix W Ryals? Bill Covey Creator of Ol' Tubby Joe Stottlemeyer Author of: Watson Is Where It Wuz http://www.geocities.com/CapeCanaveral/Station/3265/Welcome.html
Hi Folks: I went to Watson the other day. Actually I went to Pendleton (Back Gate). We went in a ski boat from Fort Smith to the end of the navigation system. Danged if 300 miles one way ain't a long way. I tried to figure out the total distance and it figured out to be 600 miles if you double the 300. Billie Jean Robertson married William "Bud" Allen in the mid 1950's or somewhere in that time frame. Does anyone know anything about that couple? Hi List: For those of you who were interested in Watson Is Where It Wuz, Prell Publishing will not be publishing the book. I am working on finding a new publisher and will let you know just as soon as I know something positive. I will keep you informed on Tales of Arabia Bill Covey Creator of Ol' Tubby Joe Stottlemeyer Author of: Watson Is Where It Wuz
This has a lot of the commonly seen surnames that float around the county, and *LOL*, even my Conrad, Harp, and Scroggins are mentioned! If you have Mississippi ties, it's worth a try: http://tn-3.rootsweb.com/~marce/ms/marriages.htm Jo-Ann Stephens Bahai@netusa1.net
Just got off the telephone with my cousin Woody Conrad (b. 1933) who lives out in Kansas now. He was raised in Drew and Desha Co. and remembers a few people from back then. He was hoping that someone on the list might know what happened to them: Jimmy Tad Newton and his two sisters, Henrietta and Dorothy Nell. Their parents were Rosie Osborn and Son Newton Billie Jean Knight Clarence Rook and daughter, Rebecca The Zeebos The Teeters Mary Lou Lewis and her brother Jack Dempsey (no, really...) any classmates from East or West Jefferson Schools I'm trying to find *anyone* with records or remembrances of the Conrad family. Most of the family says that we were so poor back then that we were invisible. Sad to think of but I'm beginning to believe it. Jo-Ann Stephens Bahai@netusa1.net Indiana
Just found out my gggrandfather Jno Foley was a barber/saloon owner on the 1880 census. Would anyone out there have any old Desha Co. records that would prove this?? Hi Folks: I was in the attic an hour or so ago and run across my 1948 Watson Yellowjacket Yearbook. My my what memories did surface and what memories remain hidden. Some of those folks looked as familiar as could be but no name could be put to them. Others claimed a name as if it were yesterday. That book is over fifty years old. I suppose I am entitled to forget some of the names and probably a few faces. Sophmores through seniors were labeled with a name. The rest of the grades were simply grouped and shown as a class. I sure would like to have some help with these folks. I actually had two classes. I was a seventh grader in this yearbook but graduated in three years which made me a member of the graduating class shown as eighth graders here. Does anyone feel like helping me? I am looking for any connection to Ed Huddleston, who was city marshall at McGehee in the 1920's. I am interested also in any info on I.N. Moore who was an attorney, and both Representative and Senator from Dumas. Jann Woodard ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
