    3. Jo-Ann: I don't have any information for you but I went to school with a Roy Ebb Scoggins in Watson. He was a year behind me in school and since I graduated in three years, he would have graduated, or been due for graduation, in 1954. I graduated in 1952. I don't even know if the family is still around there. My gr-gr-grandparents were Eli Merritt and Adeline Harp; I descend from their daughter, Martha Clinton Merritt, who married Daniel Granderson Lee in Desha Co. Another name that comes up in research is Gilbreath. Jo-Ann Stephens Bahai@netusa1.net

    2. Jann Woodard
    3. My father-in-law was S.L. Woodard from Bradley County. He taught school and coached for 45 years. His son, Elroy "Crazy-legs" Woodard played basketball at Monticello A&M, I think in the early 60's. Other's who played on his team were Levin Johnson, Kenneth Jones and Robert Jennings. Elroy coached basketball at Dumas for several years, prior to coaching at UALR in Little Rock. We played against several small schools in southeast AR, ie., Tillar, Watson, Ft. Hill, Portland, Wilmar, and Wilmot. That was back when the old gyms would be full to overflowing for all the games. I can remember some of the older men sitting on the sidelines betting on who would make goals!!! When the opportunity came for those little schools to play against the larger ones.......heck, we'd eat their cornflakes before they knew what hit them!! 3. My husband and I engaged in a"heated argument" tonight on the way home from a Christmas contata.....about Desha Central, of all things!! Could someone please tell me where it was/is located?? He thinks it was close to Tillar. I really can't remember!! We attended Banks school, in Bradley county, where my husband's father was coach.......we used to play basketball against a team at Desha Central. I've tried to find it on a map and have had no luck. The years were in the early 60's. From an old score book I find the following surnames for Desha Central: Stinson, Capps, Slaughter, Cook, Tilly, Gilbert, Holloway, Morgan, Mankin, Henson, Mitchell, Howell, and Isreal. And we beat them, 40 to 31!!!! Jann Woodard ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

    1. Re: anyone know PRESENT McGehee residents?
    2. Hello to all, Have already sent in my list of ancestral and lateral surnames so won't subject ya'll to that again. Was wondering tho if anyone on the list lives or lived in McGehee and knows people still living there. My cousins, John Clower, Cynthia (Chandler) Dean (wife of Gerald Dean) and uncle, John Chandler (recently widowed by my aunt Martha (Bishop) Chandler are all residents of McGehee. And I have an aunt who writes a monthly column for the (weekly) McGehee/Dermott TIMES NEWS. I also subscribe to that paper, so if anyone has requests (obits, what's happening, etc) from April through the present, I'll be happy to oblige as best as I can. I found a relative living in the Bressellieu household (can't remember what census), and it appeared to be either a hotel or perhaps boarding house. Was there such a place? 3. John: Thanks for responding. You are on my list for whatever that is worth. Does anyone remember Mrs. Felix W. Ryals? She was the wife of Felix W. Ryals and the mother of about a hundred and three children as I recall. Boy, they had a bunch of kids although I confess that the one hundred and three may be hyperbole. She was also the school libriarian there in Watson, The library covered one wall of the auditorium. It wasn't a single room. 1. Mrs Shepard and Mrs B.S. Ussery
    2. Billy Covey
    3. Do you folks remember these two. Mrs Shepard taught 5th grade at Watson and Mrs Ussery taught 6th grade. Mrs. Shepard was the wife of Mr. Clifton W. Shepard who either taught agriculture or possibly one of the veterans classes so popular after World War II. Mrs. Ussery was the mother of Mack Ussery, a classmate of mine, and the wife of Mr. B.S. Ussery who was on the school board. All of this would have been in the year 1948.
