Actually Billie, you can only envision growing strawberries in the hill part of Crawford County. Where I live strawberries were the first crop grown on "new ground". That means lots of stumps and in one field on top of the side bluff down stream on Big Frog south of Lancaster I got to help Tom Tabor plant his new crop of Strawberries. Each of us carried a bucket of top soil so we could put out enough dirt to plant them. You might like to know that today that area mostly grows houses. And every one of those new houses should have a crop of strawberries. >Hi folks, I just thought I'd share my memories of my aunt and father talking about picking strawberries for their grandfather, James Steele who had a farm near Bonds Special. The farm was near Frog Bayou. A Bayou in AR is another image I've had a hard time picturing--especially in the hilly NW part of AR. They'd take their strawberries to Bond's Special then load them on the train. Since my dad and aunt were born at the turn of the century, then I'd guess they were talking ca 1910-1925.
