My sister and I are researching our Meadows / Meadors ancestors and are interested in the escapades of Jacob Worth Meadows, Gideon Stephens, Andrew Meadows, Elisha Meadows and Benjamin Bewley. It appears they were Union sympathizers and were stealing stock and being generally unruly (according to one account!), however I do believe it was more serious than that. One story is that a John Meadows was hung by Confederate guerillas, and George W. Baker Meadows had his home vandalized and his stock stolen. The above mentioned Union sympathizers then retaliated against the Confederates. I know there are some newspaper articles between the years of 1866 - 1871 regarding these events. Would anyone have access to these? Or would anyone have an idea how I can search these records without taking a trip to Crawford County or Little Rock? I live about 8 hours away by car and my sister lives in Washington. Thank you so much for any advice you can give us. By the way, we were born in Illinois and grew up in Texas. We have no allegiance to either side YET! Thanks. Amy amywmurphy@earthlink.net EarthLink Revolves Around You.
